EDITORIAL MATTERS:
A special treat for you, dear reader. This issue of TLE includes,
for the very first time anywhere, Timepeeper, a Film Treatment
by L. Neil Smith. Just the first of many special treats in store for
our readers in this, our 10th year of publication. Stay tuned!
Next week is December 25th. You aren't expecting me to slave over a
hot keyboard on Christmas Eve to put together an issue of TLE
are you? And the week after that is January 1. We traditionally take
Christmas and New Year's off, and will continue that happy tradition
this year as well. Happy happy tradition. But, come January 8, 2006,
TLE will come roaring back, maybe with another of those special
treats. We will see!
More thanks go out to those who value TLE enough to part with
some cash to help support it. You know who you are, and you know we
appreciate your generosity. Thank you! It's not to late to toss a
little present into the hat if you haven't yet, you know, at
http://www.ncc-1776.org/donate.html
If you haven't gotten all of your gifts yet, an Amazon.com gift
certificate is quick, easy, and sure to be appreciated (I hope
I get some in my stocking!). Click-through via one of our
links for those last-minute purchases. Y'all be good, and we will
see you next year!

A Word About Timepeeper
by L. Neil Smith
If you've been wondering why I haven't said anything so far about
The Libertarian Enterprise completing its tenth year of publication,
one reason is that there isn't very much for me to say, except "Thank
You!"

Warmongering Is the Health of Statism
by Anthony Gregory
As Murray Rothbard explained in
"The Anatomy of the State," the state cannot persist and expand through
force alone; it needs the tacit consent of the people.
Nothing bamboozles the people out of their consent like a war.

Big Brother is Getting Bigger
by Lady Liberty
In George Orwell's classic "1984," Big Brother was the
personification of Big Government. He was always there to protect citizens
and to steer them in the "right" direction "for their own good." To maintain
the status quo (i.e. government as the ultimate authority), Orwell's Big
Brother did everything from rewriting history and redefining language to
engaging in constant prophylactic surveillance of citizens on the streets
and in their homes.

There has been a lot of grumbling lately by the
activist right about the so called, War on Christmas. Here is my
account of what some these evangelical "ORileyites" are like.

All I Want For Christmas Is To End This Stupid War
by Jonathan David Morris
I like how people these days are out of their goddam
minds. When I was a kid, nobody cared if you said "Merry
Christmas" or "Happy Holidays." Both phrases had the
same degree of utility. I distinctly remember this.

PBS Continues Probe into Biased Film
by Wendy McElroy
On Nov. 29, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
issued a report on the Public Broadcasting Service documentary "Breaking
the Silence: Children's Stories." (The CPB oversees the tax-funding and
content of PBS.) The documentary, which addressed domestic violence and
children, is accused of being anti-father, factually inaccurate and
politically motivated. Using the words "slanted" and "no hint of balance,"
in the report, CPB Ombudsman Ken A. Bode concluded, "The producers apparently
do not subscribe to the idea that an argument can be made more convincing
by giving the other side a fair presentation."
