EDITORIAL MATTERS:
Let's talk money. No, I'm not going to beg for donations this time
(http://www.ncc-1776.org/donate.html if you'd like to, though), but
instead I'm going to point out those AdBrite links (formerly Market
Banker) you'll find down below the Table of Contents. There's a new
one there, for the first time someone has up and paid for an AdBrite
link in TLE. Specifically the Free State Project. So what are
you waiting for? They won't do it again unless the link generates
some traffic to their websiteso click it! And while you're
clicking, click some more of the AdBrite links, and some of the
Google ads too. And don't forget those affiliate links from
Monster.com and Cheaper Than Dirt and Tiger Direct (where I've
personally bought quite a bit of computer stuff with excellent
and speedy service). And the others. Click them. Buy stuff from
them, too, if they've got things you need or would buy anyway
somewhere else. Support your favorite eZine! Click!
Thanks.

Avoiding the Next Gold Confiscation
by Jim Davidson
One of the readers of The Libertarian Enterprise
wrote to mention that gold confiscation is a threat.
It is true that in 1933, as part of the so-called
"National Banking Emergency," President Franklin
D. Roosevelt ordered all the gold in the country
confiscated. Later, finding less of it had been
turned in than the central planners had hoped, they
raised the exchange rate from $20 per ounce to $35
per ounce75% inflation in one goand gave a

Is It the End of Neo-Conservatism Rather than the End of History?
by Ali Massoud
Francis Fukuyama now thinks so apparently. One of the
intellectual founding fathers of the neo-conservative movement, Johns Hopkins
University professor and ex-Reagan administration apparatchik Francis Fukuyama
now admits that neo-conservatism's core beliefs don't work in practice as well
as they did in theory.

More Hits from the Conventional Wisdom Mailbag
by Jonathan David Morris
Hi there and welcome to another fine edition of the
Conventional Wisdom Mailbag. I'm your host,
Conventional Wisdom. You may remember me from such
popular misconceptions as "Mariah Carey's career is
over," "Saddam has weapons," and "Don't worry, those
levees should hold back the water." This week, I'll be
answering questions from several of JDM's astute
readers. As always, no topic is out of boundsso,
please, feel free to fire away. Ready? On we go.

If I Ruled the World
by Lady Liberty
All of us live under certain sets of rules, regulations,
and laws. Some of these rules make sense; many of them do not. People
sometimes disregard the rules that make sense. Contrarily, they also
sometimes assidulously obey and enforce those that don't. This might
actually be funny if the end results were frequently less than amusing.
