EDITORIAL MATTERS:
Greetings and Welcome to the Three-Hundred-Fifth-Nineth issue of TLE.
We have a big issue for you this time. Our Publisher L. Neil Smith has
risen from his sickbed via the miracle of modern antibiotics and produced
two articles for this issue. Regulars Doug Newman, "Lady Liberty" (not her
real name ... probably!), Scott Kauzlarich, Jonathan David Morris, and
"Chemical" Ali Massoud round out the articles. A finer bunch of friends
you couldn't have, and here they are, populating the pages of our 10-year-old
enterprise just for your reading pleasure.
Heck, if you've ever wanted to "be a writer", why not put pen to paper
(fingers to keyboard?) and try your hand at joining the "staff" of
The Libertarian Enterprise. Remember that wealth, fame, and
those groupies we mentioned? (We mentioned the total absence of those
things if you don't remember!) Ah well.
Speaking of wealth and the absence thereof, now's a good time to help
TLE pay the bills by visiting our various sponsors and affiliates
by clicking with your mouse the various links you'll find scattered around
on this page and at the bottom of our articles. Won't take you very long,
you might find something to buy you want or need, and we here at TLE
get a small commission. We're not too proud to take plain ol' cash donations
too, more information about how to do that found here:
http://www.ncc-1776.org/donate.html
And that long-promised surprise from L. Neil Smith we've mentioned before
will come true next issue (most probably!). So y'all come back, ha heer?

Which Future Do You Want?
by L. Neil Smith
I am a novelist, by trade.
As someone once defined it, I am one the nation's four hundred
professional liars. I make up long, complex, internally consistent
lies, set them down on paper or disk, and people pay me money for them.

What's Wrong With Education?:
It's the Government, Stupid!
by Doug Newman
The recent brouhaha over Colorado high school teacher
Jay Bennish is just one more in a long litany of reasons that the government
needs to get out of the education business altogether.

Doing Nothing About Everything
by Lady Liberty
I suspect there's not a person interested in Second
Amendment matters out there who doesn't know by now that Angel Shamayathe
founder of KeepandBearArms.comhas been arrested on firearms charges
in Michigan. Activists have already stepped forward to offer character
references* for his first hearing and to organize the collection of
donations to cover his legal fees.

No better time for 'Roe v. Wade for Men'
by Scott Kauzlarich
If a single woman decides to have a baby against the
wishes of the father, neither he nor anyone else should be held responsible
for supporting the offspring. That this bit of common sense is not the law
of the land rankles me.

It's Time To Forget September 11th
by Jonathan David Morris
It's time to forget September 11th.
That's right. You heard me.
It's time to push it out of our minds.
You can hoot and holler all you want about this
concept. You can say I'm anti-American. You can even
accuse me of spitting on the memories of all those who
died. But you would miss the point of what I'm about
to say here, because this has nothing to do with the
heroes or victims, and nothing to do with politics.

Thoughts on Political Reform and Human Nature
by Ali Massoud
Windy City columnist Charlie Madigan of the Chicago
Tribune quotes a Pew opinion survey in his column this week that says
that around half the American electorate think that most members of congress
take bribes. However the stunning postscript to this bit of popular cynicism
is that around half thinks that it's OK too! If Mr. or Ms.
Congressperson is supportive of their pet issues and brings home some federal
pork chops now and again, then just screw integrity and all that other
stuff!

The Enablers
by L. Neil Smith
Press Online, about Republican governors gathered for their annual
whimperfest. What they were whimpering about this year, apparentlyaside
from Hurricane Katrina demonstrating that the federal welfare sow has
very nearly gone dryis that certain "missteps" taken by the George
Bush Administration over the past several years are going to make it a
lot harder for Republican candidates to get elected in this year's
midterms.
