EDITORIAL MATTERS:
Sunrise, sunset, pretty soon you've got a week, and it's time for another
edition of TLE!
This time, we've got some fine articles for you, including the "return"
of Wendy McElroy . . . sort-of. We start-out, as usual, with letters from
our brainy readers, followed by a new article by Our Publisher Mr. Smith.
Then Our Lady Liberty (there are several by that name around, you know)
writes her usual thoughtful message, followed by Darian Worden's rallying
cry for gun-owners to do something. Then, Our Jonathan David Morris
turns his humorist's eye to a Certain Mr. Bushthis guy always makes
me laugh out loud . . . Morris, not Bush. Then, we have a long article (a
speech, actually) from Our Mr. Smith again, and we end (as we used to
always end) with Wendy McElroy . . . sort-of.
So enjoy this 368th TLE (!). And, if it tickled your fancy (your
fancy what? I always wonder), why not toss a few coins our way from the
"spare change" account by clicking on this link right here:

And toss some more green our way by using one or more of those handy
links we provide down below on this page, or at the bottom of each
and every article (they're called "advertising or affiliate links",
and when you buy stuff via them, we get paid a bit. And let me tell you
every little bit helps! And also let me say a big Thanks! to
those of you already doing this!

The Righteous Stuff: Thoughts on The Da Vinci Code
by L. Neil Smith
I love a good flap.
Author Dan Brown, moviemaker Ron Howard, and actor Tom Hanks
(among others) are giving us a great one, with a whole lot of help
from religious lunatics and enemies of free expression all over the
world.

Inequality in America
by Lady Liberty
Americansand many of those who wish to become
Americansoften speak poetically of equality. Everyone, rich or poor,
is treated equally under the law, they say. Everyone, male or female, can
reach whatever goal they're capable of attaining. Everyone, black or white,
is offered equal access to education and the job market. Everyone, religious
or otherwise, can worship or not as he believes. And those unhappy with
whatever equality they've achieved (or not) are equally entitled to march
on Washington to express their opinion.

It's Time For Another War
by Darian Worden
Michael Bloomberg, mayor of New York, seems to be intent
on waging his own war on gun rights (financed by stolen money, of course).
I think it's about time we freedom-lovers stopped merely watching politicians
declare war on things, and started having a little fun ourselves. Let's have
a War on Michael Bloomberg. In case you aren't aware of what this puke thinks
of your right to keep and bear arms, just Google "bloomberg gun control" to
get a taste of it. It's not pretty. His latest misdeed proves that he is a
problem that has gotten out of hand and must be dealt with now for the
children's sake.

Love Me, Hate Me: George W. Bush and the Pursuit of Presidential History
by Jonathan David Morris
In his 2000 book, The O'Reilly Factor, Fox News host
Bill O'Reilly wrote: "It is never too late to use the
gifts God gave you. Not many things are sadderor
more darned annoyingthan someone who says, 'I wish
I had started my own woodworking business' (written a
book, moved to a farm, gone back to nursing school,
etc., etc.)." I tend to think O'Reilly was right about
this. Which is precisely what makes recent comments by
First Lady Laura Bush so troubling.

Ending The Warfare State
by L. Neil Smith
As I speak to you here this evening, ladies and gentlemen, our
libertarian movementin fact, what I have always referred to as the
"general freedom movement"is in the worst disarray I've ever seen
it in, in my 44 years as an active, self-conscious member of it. The
traditional American aspiration toward individual liberty is in
greater danger at the moment than probably since the War Between the
States.

Is 'Duke' Case Headed to Civil Court?
by Wendy McElroy
A man stands in the background of the Duke Lacrosse
'rape' case . . . watching. While the alleged rape of a
black woman by three wealthy, white male students remains in criminal
court, he is not likely to step forward.
