Go To Your Room, Take a Pill
by L. Neil Smith
How interesting! It would appear somehow that a Libertarian Party
candidate should be above criticism, at least that's what some people
think.

Why Desk Jobs Are (Mildly) Better Than School

One of my editors asked me to write a back-to-school

Love of Money
by Chris Claypoole
Once again, we have an object example of the fact that
government is not the way to get things done. It seems that the rebuilding
of the New Orleans area since Hurricane Katrina hit a year ago has barely
begun. There is plenty of money being offered by the federal government,
but the amount of red tape involved in getting that money is holding things
up. Adding to that delay is the presumed incompetence of the government
bureaucrats in New Orleans in providing plans and paperwork to the feds
that show adequate safeguards on how any money granted to them for a
particular project will be used, as opposed to wasted and/or stolen. A
decent story on this topic can be found at. . . .

Practical Action for Defeating REAL ID
by Robert F. Hawes Jr.
Those of you who are as concerned as I am about the
arrival of REAL ID may be wondering if the program can be defeated, or

Unlibertarian Thinking
by Alex McConnell
Trying to explain libertarianism to leftists is often
frustrating and complicated. Rightists seem to understand it fine (and
strongly disagree of course), but leftists generally fail to grasp the
core concepts entirely. Because of this, leftists have a tendency to
attack "the ends" of libertarian views without understanding "the why"
of those views. This often forces libertarians into justifying their
positions based on the ends. Libertarianism isn't about the ends though
really, it's about the why.

'Take Back the Night' for Men as Well
by Wendy McElroy
Every year, campuses and cities across North America
hold "Take Back the Night"marches and rallies to protest violence
against women. But surprising data suggests that men may need to reclaim
'the night' as urgently as women. On Aug. 10, the Australian Bureau of
Statistics (ABS) released the results of its first national Personal
Safety Survey (PSS, 2005). It is the only national survey by a 'Western'
country that analyzes a wide range of violence on the basis of a respondent's
sex.
