A Snot In The Dark
by L. Neil Smith
As many of our readers know by now, The Libertarian Enterprise and my personal site, "The Webley Page" were "hacked" earlier last week. Thus we join a legion of those—LewRockwell.com comes to mind—who have suffered a fate that would mean absolutely nothing to my grandmother's generation.

Slave Revolts
by Jim Davidson
Michael Flynn is an outstanding author. His very enjoyable novel In the Country of the Blind published in 2001 describes contemporary society and reflects on Nineteenth Century history from a unique perspective. The title refers to a saying often attributed to Erasmus, the early Sixteenth Century Dutch philosopher, "In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king." In his novel, Flynn describes a series of events that are considered critical by several groups that are attempting to manipulate the course of human society.

On My Star Wars Books
by L. Neil Smith
A while back, the famous science fiction journalist Ian Hunter asked me to answer some questions about my literary involvement in Star Wars, for a book he's writing on the subject. He very kindly gave me permission to share the answers I gave him with my TLE and my blog readers.

Will the REAL Lady of Liberty please raise a Lighted Torch?
by Dennis Lee Wilson
The inscription on the Statue of Liberty reads:
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."
What a remarkable open policy! And this is also the chosen symbol of the Libertarian Party! I notice that nowhere does it say But only after they have been properly vetted, tempest-tossed some more, and stamped and fully approved for political correctness by the immigration bureaucrats of Amerikas Fascist [3] Government, will they be allowed to actually breathe free and come out of the darkness of tyranny to enjoy the light of liberty.

Freedom a la Carte
by Lady Liberty
When I first decided to create a web site, it took me about 30 seconds to decide that I wanted to focus on freedom. Just about 30 seconds after that, I realized I had a problem: the topic was just too big. After further consideration, I decided that I would confine my efforts to the Constitution and the first ten of its Amendments, the Bill of Rights.

One Dollar Gas

Ladies and gentlemen, honesty compels me to admit, right at the beginning of this presentation, that the title "One Dollar Gas" is misleading.

Tonight, We Dine On The Virgin Mary
by Jonathan David Morris
Dear Uncanny Image of the Virgin Mary: I've noticed you have a thing lately for appearing to people in the form of their foodstuffs. A St. Louis man, for instance, recently discovered your likeness in the greasy drip pan of his signature George Foreman Grill. Only days before that, workers in a California chocolate factory discovered a Mary-like figure—that's you: you're Mary—born of misshapen chocolate drippings. Finally, who can forget the famous Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich—as old as the JonBenet case, and yet, ten years and thousands of dollars later, still just as fresh?

Control-Freak News
Week of 006-08-28

by E.J. Totty
I'm feeling really comfortable with all the control exhibited by 'my government.' In fact, I'm feeling so comfortable, that I've gone out of my way to discover all that additional control exerted by the other governments of this world! Please help me feel good!

North Dakota Debates Shared Parenting Law
by Wendy McElroy
North Dakota's general election in November will probably include a ballot on a Shared Parenting Initiative, a measure that would make joint child custody the default option in cases of divorce or separation unless one parent was proven to be unfit. A petition for SPI's inclusion has the required signatures and is currently being verified. But the fact that both state and federal officials have come out against the SPI may cause its defeat.
