Boy! Got some real doozies for ya this time around!

I've added a new heading: Public School Child (future citizen) Control.

This one has only a single entry and (2) related items, but it is absolutely imperative to get the info out.

Public School Child (future citizen) Control Items

        PsychResearch.net (US): Teen Screen

Excerpt:
"It's just a way to put more people on prescription drugs," said Marcia Angell, a medical ethics lecturer at Harvard Medical School and author of "The Truth About Drug Companies." She said such programs will boost the sale of antidepressants even after the FDA in September ordered a "black box" label warning that the pills might spur suicidal thoughts or actions in minors. (The New York Post, December 5, 2004)
TeenScreen is based on the thoroughly discredited "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders".

Read the Online Petition here
Which in part reads:
"Whereas most states have laws restricting the purchase of firearms based on an adjudication of mental illnesses or disorders, and mass screening of all American children for mental disorders will increase the number of persons labeled with a mental disorder, directly infringing upon the citizenry's right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the 2nd amendment;

Now, if all public school children—at any time before they leave whatever public school—can be tricked into believing that they are suffering a mental disorder, and be placed on a regimen of psychotropic drugs, a whole generation will be without the ability to possess firearms.
This whole thing is an end-around-run on firearms rights. It would be an interesting bit of research to discover whether any of the actors here have any connections to the Brady Campaign. . .
        Think about that.

News Target.com (US): Prescription drugs are connected to school shootings and other violence, yet more drugs are touted as the solution

Excerpt:
The United States is gaining a reputation around the world for raising children who go on school shooting rampages. Earlier this year, we had another one with 16-year-old Jeff Weiss, who went into his school on an Indian reservation and blew away 10 friends. And guess what? He was taking the antidepressant Prozac.

Gun Control Items

BuzzFlash.com (US): "The Second Amendment Doesn't Prohibit Gun Regulation—It In Fact Compels It," According to Professor Saul Cornell

Excerpt:
I think gun rights people need to recognize that gun control is also as American as venison pie, if you will. Gun regulation is just as American as gun ownership. -- Saul Cornell

Yeah, right. And anyone reading that statement by Cornell above, will of necessity arrive at the conclusion that just any right may be regulated.

Mens News Daily.com (US): The Los Angeles Times On Ignorance, Intentional Ignorance.
Excerpt:
This is where that ignorance on guns comes in: gun control laws are not effective, unless you're trying to disarm the law-abiding, then, as unAmerican as they are, they are effective. They are effective at disarming the citizen to put them at the mercy of the thugs in Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. Brilliant. That's your idea of Order?

BusinessDay (ZA): MPs pass revised gun bill, but DA labels it 'Draconian'
Excerpt:
A BILL that relaxes some aspects of tough gun control laws was approved by the National Assembly yesterday, despite a Democratic Alliance (DA) claim that it was another piece of "Draconian" legislation.
The Firearms Control Amendment Bill, which still has to go through the National Council of Provinces, extends the validity of certain types of firearm licence.
Follow up news story

WTOP 103.5 FM (US): Study: Long Guns Used in Md. Crime Once Every Two Days
Excerpt:
Delegate Neil Quinter, D-Howard, and CeaseFire Maryland, a gun control organization, said the study shows that Maryland needs to expand the 1994 law that bans the sale of semiautomatic pistols to include rifles and shotguns.

The Philadelphia Enquirer (US): Democrats call for gun laws

Excerpt:
Legislative proposals would include limits on the sale of handguns to one per month; a ban on military-style assault weapons statewide; additional funding for police and police equipment; and a requirement that gun owners report a lost or stolen firearms within 24 hours.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that as the Bush administration winds down, that the Democrats are winding up to a full-scale assault upon firearms rights in time for the next election? Just a thought. . .

The New York Sun (US): N.Y. Gun Enthusiasts Call for Automatic Issuing of Permits

Excerpt:
While attempts to make New York adopt an objective standard for concealed weapons permits have failed for almost a dozen legislative sessions in Albany, gun enthusiasts will resume their campaign for a change in the law.
"We will be pushing for that legislation," the president of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, Thomas King, said. "The exact specifics of the bill, we're still working on."

The Sun News (US): Writer disputes 'indisputable' arms claims

Excerpt:
A quick glance at the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics contradicts what Daniel claims is "indisputable." I compared the violent crime rates from four localities—South Carolina (reason is self-evident), California (known for its strict gun control laws), Washington, D.C. (often invoked by gun advocates as an argument against gun control), and the United States (for a broader picture of national change).

It's too bad that people writing the above nonsense don't have a grasp on either statistical analysis, or for that matter, don't make long-term comparisons when making any kind of comparison.

Fox News.com (US): Robbery, Gun Violence Rose in 2005 While Crime Overall at 32-Year Low

Excerpt:
Last year, there were two violent gun crimes for every 1,000 individuals, compared with 1.4 in 2004, according to the department's Bureau of Justice Statistics. There were 2.6 robberies for every 1,000 persons, compared with 2.1 the year before.
"This report tells us more the serious events—robbery and gun crimes—increased and the FBI already told us homicides increased," said criminal justice professor James Alan Fox of Northeastern University.
[. . .]
Unlike the FBI report culled from police blotters, the statistic bureau makes estimates based on interviews with 134,000 people, so it counts not only reported crime but also crimes the police never hear about. Also, 53 percent of violent crimes and 60 percent of property crimes are never reported to the police.

Pocono Record (US): Harmless way to jump on gun control soapbox

Excerpt:
Rep. Dwight Evans, D-Philadelphia, had filed motions to force floor votes on gun control bills to curb murders in Philadelphia. Specifically, Evans wants to limit the sale of handguns to an individual to once a month, ban military-style assault weapons and require gun owners to report lost or stolen weapons within 24 hours.
[. . .]
While Evans and urban lawmakers focus on getting guns off the streets, lawmakers representing non-urban districts will make a different argument: Pennsylvania should strengthen the rights of law-abiding gun owners, they will say.

Reading Eagle (US): Rendell retreats from gun stance

Please note:
The Reading Eagle pulled this article, and it is no longer available at its website.

However, Google has cashed it - thank goodness!

Excerpt:
During a campaign stop in Reading, the governor says there is little chance of getting the Republican-controlled Legislature to pass legislation limiting sales.

Lancaster Online (US): Drug strategy, not gun control, draws favor in crime war

Excerpt:
"Gun violence is coming from the drug trade," said state Rep. Katie True, a Republican from East Hempfield Township. "People who deal in drugs, who make millions of dollars, really don't care what kind of laws we pass on guns."
True will be among a local panel of lawmakers, law enforcers and two local juvenile offenders trying to come up with crime solutions other than gun control.

The American Daily (US): Thank You, California Legislature

Excerpt:
AB 352, which was to ridiculously expect handguns to microstamp a number on the cartridge casing at the moment it is fired, was defeated this week. I thank the legislators who successfully battled it and won. Thank you very much for your service and for your family-friendly efforts. (And don't think for a minute that an armed household isn't a family-friendly concept.)

The Huffington Post (US): The World Must Wonder how U.S. can Tolerate Guns

Excerpt:
Unfortunately, too many members of the National Rifle Association believe the Second Amendment is absolute, thus, all arms should be legal.

Dang! And no mention of the Second Amendment Foundation, The Jews For the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, or the Gun Owners of America, or. . .

CNEWS Canada (CA): Shootings likely to rekindle gun control debate

Excerpt:
Tony Doob, a University of Toronto criminologist, said it will take time to sort out the details of what happened Wednesday and decide what, if any, political response is appropriate.
"At this point, we have no idea whether any criminal justice policies have any relevance," said Doob. "Whether a gun registry might make this kind of thing less likely to occur depends on the specific circumstances."

Commentary: In all of this, it pays to remember that the control freaks of life endeavor to force a stringent conformity upon us all, predicated upon those ill acts conducted by the very worst among us, in the vein hope that by doing so they will achieve a stasis.
But, those control freaks have it all wrong: Change happens.

Knife Culture/Weapons Culture Control Items

Amnesty International (US): Papua New Guinea: Culture and resources no excuse for violence against women

Excerpt:
"This report shatters those defences. Amnesty International has researched violence against women across the world, from Sweden to Colombia to the Solomon Islands -- and we have seen governments invoke the same justifications everywhere. But there are no excuses -- governments are obliged under international law to protect women from violence, no matter where, when or from whom."

Do take note of AI's equivocation: They are for gun-confiscation.

They bleat like sheep, inure others to become victims, and then complain endlessly that 'something' must be done—as if whatever government might be everywhere. . .

Guardian Unlimited (UK): Mother killed in 'frenzied' attack

Excerpt:
A hard-working mother was brutally stabbed to death in a leafy residential street as she walked to work in broad daylight.
The 51-year-old woman, who had two daughters and a grand-daughter, was knifed repeatedly as she fell to the ground and screamed in terror.
ANOTHER SOURCE HERE

But isn't it against the law in the UK to stab anyone? And isn't it against the law to pack heat? Where were all those wonderful police. . . ?

This is Hertfordshire (UK): Double murder shows knife crime is still to be tamed

Excerpt:
The killings occurred despite a knife amnesty held earlier this year, hailed as a success by Lambeth police.

What thoroughly amazes me, is that these people seemingly have not a clue that the acts conducted, have not a thing to do with the instruments used. And, yet another law is going to accomplish. . . what?

Evening Times (UK): Cops launch new bid to beat gang violence

Excerpt:
POLICE today launched a month-long campaign against underage drinkers in an attempt to reduce gang violence.

I perceive of a cultural problem that has either been allowed to develop, or. . .

Or it's endemic, and has only recently gotten worse.

Collegiate TImes (US): Gun control letters miss fundamental issues

Excerpt:
More fundamentally, Virginia Tech would have a much more difficult time attracting good professors and instructors if students carried guns. How many people are comfortable grading strangers who might be armed with anything larger than a pocket knife? Would you want to give a machete-toting student an F on a final exam? I would teach  and do research  somewhere else, personally.

Take note of the fundamental flaw in the thinking: You might be dangerous—if you pack heat, but you won't be otherwise. . .

Scotland on Sunday (UK): Knife carriers to be sent straight to jail

Excerpt:
ANYONE caught in possession of a knife will face a 'presumption of jail' under a tough new law being considered by Labour to tackle Scotland's blade culture.

I'm lost for words. . .

Scottish Executive (UK): Further measures to tackle weapons culture

Excerpt:
Proposals to introduce a licensing scheme for the sale of non-domestic knives and banning the sale of swords were announced today.

Once, not so long ago, the everyman in Scotland carried a blade as a matter of course.

Now they emulate the English to the south of them, and wonder how it is that they arrive at where they now find themselves. . .

This Is Lancashire (UK): Schoolgirl is threatened with knife

Excerpt:
"Headteacher Ken Howell said: "Smithills School is aware of the allegation which was not reported to school for two days. We are investigating the validity of the claim and the school-based police officer is fully involved. Smithills School does not have a knife culture and has never had a major knife-related incident."

Yeah, and the US didn't have a problem with firearms, knives, booze, or drugs, until a group of bloody damned goody two-shoes managed to create one—artificially, by hyping everything to the nth degree—like they are in the UK.

Thought/Mind Control and Thought Crime Items

Expatica.com (NL): Perils of the World Wide Web

Excerpt:
He advocates government backed public websites, which would serve as debating chambers where different points of view would be put forward. He even goes so far as to suggest an icon linking to these sites should be placed on each PC.
He also says people who set up websites should be encouraged as a matter of course to set up links to sites with differing views and adds that government regulation of such a system is worth considering.

Sounds like somebody needs to be tightly wrapped in a security blanket. . .

InfoShop.org (US): "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Excerpt:
Getting the right perspective of the terror threat is the most important part of breaking the FEAR the government is using to terrorize the American public and the world! Endless fake terror alerts to which the media acts with hysteria, resulting in a form of fear based mind control that zombifies the general public to act without the ability to THINK for itself. This fear has been used to keep neoconservatives in power, to continue to erode our civil liberties, to continue to wage wars based on lies and to continue the plans that were developed in the Project for the New American Century whose chief contributors now reside in the most powerful offices of our government.

ZWIRE.com (US): Our nation's poor dance of terrorism

Excerpt:
Still, others feel that big government forfeited trust by numerous social violations.
They know that throughout history, U.S. government officials have used both citizens and service personnel for secret experiments involving mind control drugs, syphilis, etc.
Perception remains a trump card for reality.

Caboodle (HU): Academy of Sciences protests experiments on children

Excerpt:
According to hirtv.hu, the president of the National Institute of Pharmacy (OGYI) announced on September 1st that the vaccine against bird flu could be tested on children. The institue is currently waiting for twenty parents to volunteer; experiments will start in upcoming weeks. The institue doesn't think there are any legal, professional or ethical barriers to testing the vaccine on minors.

(Emphasis mine) The nexus to mind/thought control here is the idea that will be implanted in the minds of the children: You don't have control over your own body.

RickRoss.com (US): Brainwashing and thought control. . .

Excerpt:
He was able to show scientifically that behaviors in animals could be established or erased by creating the appropriate amount of stress for the animal. For example, with the right amount of stress, he could make a dog react aggressively to a caretaker with whom the dog was once extremely loyal. He applied stress to his animals through emotional means and through medical means. Regardless of the method, each animal had a certain level of tolerance to stress. Once that level was surpassed, the animal began to break down, and changes in the animal's behavior could be observed.
[. . .]
As a society, we fear a variety of things. Terrorist and weapons of mass destruction are two obvious examples. Our fear may make us vulnerable to the powers of suggestion by authorities as to how to best ease our anxiety. The difficulty is in discerning what we should be genuinely fearful of, and what fears are being used to push us toward alternative ways of thinking.

Times online (UK): Offended by hardcore laws

Excerpt:
But the second, which is being urged in support of the new proposal, is dangerous although not necessarily false: that people who relish such images may seek to emulate what they see.
How far are we prepared to go in preventively detaining people who are likely to commit crimes, but have not yet committed them?

I'd thought that 'knife crime' was so rampant as to completely occupy the police—over there. Maybe the reason there are so many 'knife crimes' is that there are way too many cops involved in preventing 'thought crimes?'

        Lew Rockwell.com (US): Thought Crimes

Excerpt:
On Aug. 23, a teen here in the Las Vegas valley received an e-mail from a Henderson 14-year-old asking "Would you be up for some Columbine-like (expletive)."
"Like what we talking?" asked his admirably articulate correspondent.
"I can't talk to you online about it," responded the original sender, showing some tardy discretion. "But how can I hit you up offline?"
A relative of the teen who received the message phoned police. At 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 23 Henderson police went to the home of the 14-year-old who sent the original message, arrested him, and took him to the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center, where he was booked on charges of making threats or conveying false information concerning acts of terrorism.

Prison Planet.com (US): Thoughtcrime in Britain's Ascendant Police State

Excerpt:
Orwell's Thought Police used psychology and surveillance to find and eliminate members of society who were capable of the mere thought of challenging ruling authority. In Britain today, the ruling authority is not using thoughtcrime so much as a way to stamp out all deviant thought, but rather as a mechanism to create the specter of pervasive terrorism and thus erect, piece by piece, the scaffolding of a police state.

Media Monitors Network (US): Freedom of thought. . .

Excerpt:
Despite our great scientific achievements, we are not as far removed from the Middle Ages as we might think. It is often easier to believe a facile lie than a disquieting truth if the truth threatens to upset one's worldview.
[. . .]
In as much as collective grieving and commemoration are important to societal and cultural cohesion, those who accept the narrative as written will reinforce the cardinal dogma that the U.S. was a victim of a terrorist attack, not the perpetrator. I can almost hear the guffaws of disbelief as some of you reading this column are doubtlessly preparing to shriek "conspiracy theory," but is denying the official narrative really so outrageous? Apparently it is.

New-Leader (US): Let students just be students

Excerpt:
I have witnessed students being singled out for wearing tall T's and baggy pants. Other things that have been banned are not being targeted by the administration, such as coats, chains and sunglasses. Enforcers in the district are specifically targeting the people involved in the hip-hop culture.

Humph! Back when I was a kid, wearing 'railroad boots' and black leather jackets was against public school rules, because those items were 'chiefly worn' by motorcycle gangs—never mind that teen idol James Dean wore them, and it was simply a fad. I wonder what would happen if all of a sudden the kids started wearing priest and nun outfits to school? "Excuse, Father/Sister, but are you hiding anything under that cassock/habit?"
What if ALL the kids—all of a sudden—took to wearing burqas?

The Register (UK): Schools can fingerprint children without parental consent

Excerpt:
Parents cannot prevent schools from taking their children's fingerprints, according to the Department for Education and Skills and the Information Commissioner.
But parents who have campaigned against school fingerprinting might still be able to bring individual complaints against schools under the Data Protection Act (DPA).
DfES admitted to The Register that schools can fingerprint children without parents' permission.

Christ! The UK is becoming the BIG BROTHER entity faster than George Orwell predicted!! I wonder what's in store next—chipping?

There's also this follow-up story by the same source:
Stuff your own ballot with children's fingerprints
"And since schooling is more or less compulsary, what a temptation for the next governments to have a 100% population's fingerprints on the database, you never know when and for what it might come in handy. Get the little ones first, get them used to the idea of tagging and they won't bleat a word when they're dna-tested later. We need to protect our society from the terrorists, right?"

And now, for something completely different:

Bagpipe Control Items

You knew this was going to happen, didn't you?
It was bound to, sooner or later.

        S-A-M-S.org (US): Bagpipes Outlawed!

Excerpt:
There is current legislation pending in Congress to restrict the sale of bagpipes and equip them with child-safety devices.    The influential bagpipe lobby is, of course, opposed to this.    There have even been several proposals for requiring a so-called "trigger lock" on chanters!    Every year there are reports of hundreds of innocent children, attracted by the shiny black, seductive drones of an unattended instrument in an unlocked case who are traumatized for life by the attempts of a playmate to get a sound out of it, or who may suffer a collapsed lung or the effects of hyperventilation by trying the same effort themselves.    The owner's feeble "I didn't know the case was unlocked" is no excuse!    Bagpipes should be stored out of reach of children.
