A NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER

As readers of The Libertarian Enterprise and my blog at www.bigheadpress.com may recall, a few weeks ago, I made them—and anybody else who cares—an offer in the form of a literary bribe.

The deal, I said then, is that Baen Books had only 1500 copies left of my big novel, Forge of the Elders and if they managed to get sold in a reasonable amount of time, I'd write a short story involving at least three of the novel's principal characters (probably Eichra Oren, the P'Nan moral debt assessor, his sidekick Oasam, a sapient dog, and their boss, the giant nautiloid, Mr. Thoggosh) and post it for free.

I received the following this week from Toni Weisskopf at Baen Books:

"The hardcover is out of stock now, but we've got over 1,100 of the [paperback] in stock. Your reader[s] can write to us and we'll sell it to [them] directly if [they] doesn't want to try with another vendor. Cover price plus $1.50 shipping and handling to Dept. BA, Baen Books, P.O. Box 1403, New York, NY 10471 will do it."

Which means that 400 copies of the book have sold in a relatively short time, and I'm probably going to have to write that new short story.

Now I'll make you another unprecedented offer. Anybody who can prove that he or she has purchased 50 copies of Forge of the Elders will be written into the short story as a character—good or bad, their choice. Whoever buys 100 copies first will get to be the murder victim—good or bad, their choice—and appear in the story in flashbacks.

This offer applies to anybody, including dealers.

Is July 4 A Christian Holiday?

The Morning Mail

The "G" stands for "ghoul", an eater of the dead.
