It Might Be Too Late To Wake Up
by James Glaser

Special to The Libertarian Enterprise

George Bush and Dick Cheney were and are oil men. Their friends and business associates were and are oil men. When these two came to office, gas sold for $1.66 a gallon. Today I filled up, and it was $3.19 a gallon.

Big oil and big business put up the money to get George and Dick in office, and it has paid off big time. It doesn't matter to them that hundreds of thousands, maybe over a million innocent humans have lost their lives because of the wars that these two have started. It even seems like nobody, at least nobody in America even cares that over four million Iraqis have been forced out of their homes, with two million forced out of their country, because of the terror and destruction America has brought there.

The same can be said for Afghanistan, although the numbers of innocent killed and displaced are in the hundreds of thousands there.

It seems like every week Washington takes a little more of our freedom. I know it is old news, but it still bothers me that the FBI can and does look at our library records, and when they do that or some other investigation (like your medical or financial records) it is a crime if the people giving them the records tell you they did.

If he wants to, President Bush can throw you or me in jail for as long as he wants. You get no lawyer, no charges, no trail, and the government doesn't even have to tell your family that you have been picked up. That does sound like the Gestapo to me.

Sad to say, I don't know what we can do about it. I look at those running for president, other than Ron Paul and Dennis Kuninich, and I see no one who would try to protect us or our Constitution. Other than these two, I think everyone else is bought and paid for, and has been for years.

I like Doctor Paul, and think he would put our country in the right direction, but I know the international corporations will never allow him to be elected. You can already see how the corporate media treats him at the debates.

I am afraid the "fix" is in for America, and about the only thing I see working is for the people to rise up like they did in 1776. At the rate we are going now, in about 25 years, Americans will have had enough of big money controlling us, and like every country before us, the United States will have a new form of government.
