Are the Palins Members of an Extremist, Traitorous, Un-Patriotic, Un-American, Secessionist Group?
by Thomas Andrew Olson
While the world contemplates the meltdown of the financial
sector over the last few of weeks, things have not stood still on the campaign
trail. The "smearbunds" on both sides, in fact, have been working
overtime in a desperate grab for reader and viewer attention. Of course, this
is not really about "attention" at allit's about engendering a
knee-jerk emotional distraction from the real issues. The latest theme is:
Guilt-by-Association.

A Reply to Jim Davidson's, "Why I am Not a Conservative"
by Gary F. York
It would be delightful if I could count on every libertarian
being a saint or even a 'good person'. That is not the case; nor is it likely to
soon become so. Libertarians are not obliged to think good thoughts, say good
things, or even do good deeds. We are not Boy Scouts. Libertarians aren't
required to be particularly good people, make good neighbors, or have good goals.
It's not what we're about, as libertarians.

Do Not Vote
by Adam Edwards
The phrase "I don't vote" has become one of the new
unspeakable taboos in our country. Even the worst among us would not suggest
people pass up the opportunity to have their voice heard. Endless numbers of
nameless heroes died just to bring you the right to vote. No matter what
irrational ways are used to pick a candidate, the more important thing is
apparently to vote. I don't vote and I will tell you why.

Observations
by Chris Claypoole
I went to the Maryland Renaissance Festival last Saturday
(October 18). It's the last weekend of this year's run, and the weather was
perfect, partly sunny and cool, so the grounds were packed. I didn't see much
evidence of financial panic there, as people were spending pretty much as I
have observed in the last 10 or 12 years I have gone there. I saw at least
three people getting "measured" for custom-fitted moccasin-boots (covers the
calf), for which the vendor casts your lower leg and foot for a perfect fit,
at $400-$500 per pair (depending on how fancy the leather, etc.). Lines at
all the food and drink stands (prices being somewhat lower than movie theaters,
but higher than fast food places, and more variety and quality than either)
were much longer than I had seen over the last several years.

An Open Letter to My Fellow Americans
by Richard I. Kurlish
Election day is just around the corner. No doubt you are all,
if not eager, than at least resigned to do your civic duty by voting for the
candidate of your choice, be they Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or one of
the lesser breeds of beasts that we call "politicians".

Welcome to the United Socialist States of America
by A.X. Perez
The new designation of the United States of America began
the moment the decision was made to have the US Government buy stock in failing
banks in exchange for lending them money to stay in business. Willy nilly this
will lead to the formation of a government owned corporation to manage these
stocks, Congress may even bother to try to keep this company politically neutral.

Judgment Day
The Kaptain's Log
by Kaptain Kanada, aka Manuel Miles
There is a scene in one of the Terminator movies in
which Sarah Connor tells Dr Silverman, the headshrinker, that, "You're
the one living in a dream!" She goes on to say that everything they know
is about to be obliterated and life after "Judgment Day" will be changed
foreverfor the few survivors.
