THE CURRENT ISSUE

EDITORIAL MATTERS:

We have information about Michael Badnarik's illness and a way to contact him as our first Letter to the Editor this issue.

And here we are in 2010. I remember when I was a teenager reading a list of coming solar eclipses or something. The list extended to about 2010. I thought "Gee, I'll be old in 2010." Bingo.

We add a new feature this issue: Classified Ads. Yes, back in TLE's early days we carried 'em, and now we're going to try carrying 'em again. They will appear between the Main page (the one you're reading now) and the Letters to the Editor page.

Don't forget L. Neil Smith's novel Ceres is being published on the web, with a new chapter every Monday:

And his other blog-thing at www.bigheadpress.com/lneilsmith/

The graphical novel Phoebus Krumm by L. Neil Smith, Scott Bieser and the artist known as ~3~ is now appearing every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at:

Facing 2010
by L. Neil Smith
For years there have been rumors on the Internet (sometimes accompanied by photographs) about "relocation camps" being prepared here in America, ostensibly to help deal with large-scale emergencies like Hurricane Katrina, but actually for the purpose of dealing with dissenters.

A Horror Story from England
by "Musket Mike" of Montana
Here in the States we have our own horror stories about issues surrounding police abuses of power but every once in a while we hear a horror story from England that is enough to send shivers down the spine. At 2.15 pm on 5/20/09 the author of the Expedient Homemade Firearms books, Philip A.Luty was arrested at gunpoint by the British "North East Counter Terrorism Unit" (NECTU). Philip is the well known author of Expedient Homemade Firearms -- The 9mm machine gun.

Americans Withdraw
by Jim Davidson
A few days ago, I got involved in a discussion with Jim Quinn of theburningplatform.com who seemed to want me to read an essay he wrote on gradual changes in governmental madness. I wrote back to say that I don't think gradualism has a chance. In fact, I don't think it deserves a chance at this point. It has, after all, been the political gradualism of groups like the Libertarian party that have failed decade after decade.

"To Throw Off Such Government"
by Russell D. Longcore
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security." -- Thomas Jefferson, Declaration of Independence, 1776. Jefferson wrote that the People had a duty to "throw off" a despotic government. "Throw off."

The Cure?!
by Paul Bonneau
One can always tell a Believer in the Government Religion: the first thing he does is advocate a government "solution" to a problem. It's even more evident when that problem is caused by government itself. Only a True Believer could believe the cause can be the cure.
