A Saucy Proposal
by L. Neil Smith
As many of my readers know, I'm a Fort Collins, Colorado author of
over thirty books, mostly science fiction action-adventure novels, as
well as a lifelong appreciator of what I, at least, consider good
food. I've written about food for publication on several occasions --
anonymously, as a "mystery gourmet" -- and talked about it on the
radio.

What IS the Lesson of History?
Ask the Right Question -- REDUX
by Dennis Lee Wilson
Arizona politicians, reacting in part to tales of trespass and
violence on private lands near the border with Mexico, (see explanation by Arizona

Truer to Ourselves: Rethinking US-Israeli Policy
by Kellan Schmelz
During the Obama Administration's recent spat with Israel over the latter's
building of a new settlement on traditionally Palestinian land, the generally close relationship
between the two nations seemed to shift gears. Since Harry Truman's recognition of Israel in 1948,
Israel has enjoyed a level of support from the United States that surpasses that of any other
nation, both politically and economically; while many Presidents have disagreed with Israel, few
have ever been willing to do so in a way that might appear to threaten this relationship. As
Benjamin Netanyahu frequently complained during the crisis, no administration has ever directly
pressured Israel to halt the building of settlements on Palestinian land, as the Obama Administration
repeatedly did throughout the recent political firestorm, or outright demand the establishment
of a Palestinian state, as Obama reportedly did. Particularly after eight years of an unabashedly
pro-Israeli Bush administration, it is refreshing to have a President who seemingly gets it: a
voice in the White House willing to buck past alliances and demand that Israel show accountability
and respect human rights.

What is Liberty
by Rob Sandwell
I believe that true liberty is the right of every man to decide for himself
what is proper and just. Now, right away, this opens me up to a whole bunch of arguments which
people will offer to try to distract from the basic moral truth at the heart of that statement.

Necessitas non cognescere legem
by A.X. Perez
So after being lost in the mountains for three days and a blizzard coming
down you stumble on a well appointed hunting lodge, break in and help yourself to a warm place
to sleep, water and food. When the weather breaks a heavily armed force of federal, state, local
and rented cops descends on you and drags you off for various and sundry misdemeanors and felonies.
