The Air I Breathe
by L. Neil Smith
A while ago, a reader pointed out to me that I often mention the concept of Western Civilization in my writings, the importance of preserving and extending it, and the ways in which it's threatened by various ideas, individuals, and institutions whose activities must be countered.

Opting Out and Fedex Shredding
by Jim Davidson
Recently, I was informed by an e-mail to the address I used with the now-defunct Borders book stores that my data and personal purchasing information was being transferred from Borders to Barnes and Noble as a result of a sale of Borders's customer information that was approved by the bankruptcy court overseeing their dissolution. There was an opt-out choice, which I thought would un-subscribe me from further Barnes and Noble e-mail. On clicking that choice, I was subsequently presented with an e-mail which allowed me to confirm the choice. On clicking to confirm, I was presented with a screen that informs me that my data will not be transferred from Borders to Barnes and Noble.

Scams and Spams and Piracy, Oh My!
by Michael Bradshaw
Re "Angela Zhangs" letter to the manager in last week's issue, what we have here is a simple case of spam, phishing and fraud (and other nasty things beginning with "F"). Everyone and his maiden aunt has been getting these alarming letters from "yg-network" trying to sell him top-level domain registration in China, and Asia in general, at inflated prices. Try a startpage.com search on "yg-network" and see for yourself.

Power Flows
by Jim Davidson
Last week, I'm told, six thousand protesters marched on NYPD headquarters in New York. The pigs led the protesters to the Brooklyn Bridge, blocking off streets, and are seen in several videos escorting the protesters onto the bridge. Then they closed the bridge at both ends and arrested about four hundred protesters.

Respecting Intellectual Property
by Bill St. Clair
Libertarians seem to be of two minds on Intellectual Property (IP). Many authors I know, e.g. Claire Wolfe, L. Neil Smith, & Scott Bieser, firmly believe in it. Many respectable anarchists, led it seems primarily by N. Stephan Kinsella, do not. Mr. Kinsella has written a short book, Against Intellectual Property, which is available as a free download at mises.org or on dead trees (for $6), also at mises.org. L. Neil Smith published a series of articles supporting IP in The Libertarian Enterprise: Neil, Richard Bartucci, Cathy L.Z. Smith (Neil's wife).

The Fourth Reich: Germany Rises Once Again
by Russell D. Longcore
"Deutschland, Deutschland, über alles." Germany, Germany above all. The stirring words of the German National Anthem, written by Joseph Haydn in 1797, will soon take on greater meaning in Europe. By the way... think about the words in the anthems of other countries. The French want to fertilize farms with their enemies' blood, Britannia wants to rule the world's oceans, the US wants to see a flag at dawn after a battle. This anthem says: Forget petty regional squabbling, unite for the common good and do nothing that would shame the name of your person and thereby your country. Work with pride to earn and keep the admiration of the world.
