Special to L. Neil Smith's The Libertarian Enterprise As the year 2007 progressed, something was happening to faces on MySpace and Facebook. More and more of my friends became an old white guy. Instead of my friend, I would see Ron Paul. It wasn't a drug-induced hallucination. The pictures really had been substituted. Now, there was a time, back in 1988, when I still bothered to vote. I had not been falsely accused of a crime that I did not commit. I was foolish enough to suppose that my vote would be counted. And I didn't like the choices between Michael Dukakis and George Herbert Walker Bush, so I voted for the Libertarian Party candidate, Ron Paul. One of my friends who was involved in the Ron Paul campaign was Catherine Bleish. She was sufficiently involved that she was able to be chosen as a delegate to the Missouri state GOP convention from her community in Kansas City, and to the national convention as a Ron Paul delegate from Missouri. She may be the only Republican national convention delegate accused by the Southern Poverty Law Centre of being a terrorist, judging by their incredibly stupid 2010 report.As a result of her efforts to successfully organise Kansas City area libertarians, Cat formed the Liberty Restoration Project. Although her team was not successful in winning Ron Paul the 2008 GOP nomination, they did gain publicity for the idea of ending the Federal Reserve System with a series of events, including a major rally held on 22 November 2008 at the Kansas City offices of the Federal Reserve and the IRS. Although we spent some time together at Campaign for Liberty events in 2009, Cat's politics moved from libertarian Republican to libertarian anarchist. Today she lives with her domestic partner John Bush and their daughter Aliana near Austin where they run the anarchist book store Brave New Books. Meanwhile, the torch was passed from Cat to my friend Tracy Ward. Tracy is widely known in Kansas City politics as the pink-haired lady who ran for city commission. Tracy is interested in expanding the Liberty Restoration Project, doing more to end the red light camera scam in Kansas City (which was found unconstitutional by a court in St. Louis), and to organise community activities to begin replacing the government in order to make it less necessary. Today, I'm writing to invite all my Kansas City area friends to join the Liberty Restoration Project. Every Thursday I've been driving in from Lawrence so I can be sure to participate. Some of the finest people I know, like Dawn Eckel and Alan Kent, are members. You should be, too. Joining is easy. Simply show up next Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Art of Pizza restaurant at 18th and Baltimore in Kansas City.
