Rumors of War
by L. Neil Smith
Unless you've been doing wall paintings in a Spanish cave, you'll
be aware that earlier this year, the federal Department of Homeland Security has ordered
450,000,000 rounds of hollowpoint .40 S&W pistol ammunition. Look at that number again:
four hundred fifty million. That's half again the population of the United States. Or,
the way these goons usually shoot, almost enough to kill a million peole.

Constitution-bashing, a strategic error?
by Paul Bonneau
By now it is commonplace to see articles and books whacking the
Constitution; I've written them myself. Certainly, it is hard for anyone who has a
modicum of historical knowledge and a realistic understanding of human nature to have
much use for the Constitution. Yet, could we be making a strategic mistake?

Drones
by L. Neil Smith
My father was an Army Air Corps bombardier during World War II. To
make it perfectly clear, he sat up in the plexiglass nose of a B-17 and dropped explosives
on people and things that passed underneath his airplane.

Drug Tests and Welfare
by L. Lawrence Baird
You see the posts everywhere. If I have to take a drug test for my
job you should have to take one to collect welfare as if some how millions of welfare
recipients would get cut off and all the employed folks would receive massive refunds.
Ain't gonna happen!

The Most Important Election Ever?
by Jonathan David Morris
Someone tried telling me the other day that this upcoming election
between Obama and Romney was "really important." "Oh, you've gotta vote in this one,"

When System F Is Full of Fail
by Jim Davidson
It goes by many names. Some call it "the black market," or "the
underground economy." Sam Konkin called it "the counter-establishment economy" or just
"counter economy." In Germany, it is sometimes known as "trick 17." The Finnish call
it kikka kolmonen or "Trick 3." One of the more widely used terms today is
"System D" which derives from the French term Systme D. The French words
débrouillard and démerder seem to be the source of the
"D" in system D. The verb se débrouiller means "to untangle" which
suggests the entanglements that come with involving the government in any way. The
verb se démerder literally means to remove oneself from "the shit" or
to keep clear of manure.

Gary Me Not On The Lone Prairie
by L. Neil Smith
I live in what's known politically as a "swing state". At this
particular moment, according to a Rasmussen Poll, I think, the Democratic and
Republican Presidential candidates are tied at 47 percent. That's 94 percent,
altogether, for the Boot On Your Neck party. But it's also a fairly odd thing.
As an author and publisher, I know lots of people, not all of them libertarians
or conservatives as you might expect. Not a single one of them is willing even
to think about voting for Barack H. Obama, or whatever his name is. What's
more, not one of them has any interest in voting for the guy whose folks, for
one reason or another, saw fit to name him after a baseball glove. Nobody I
know wants Obama or Romney, nobody. And yet ... And yet ... Here we are. Again.
