Public Schools Delenda Est
by L. Neil Smith
Socialism is an ethical and political belief that the life and rights of the individual (provided that he has any at all) are less important than the life and putative rights of the group. Given historical examples like Stalin's Soviet Union, Mao's People's Republic, and Hitler's Third Reich, it should be easy to see the consequences of such a belief and condemn it for what it is: moral cannibalism. Between them, they murdered over a hundred million people.

When Individuals Must Protect Themselves
by Don B. Kates
This morning FL Judge Alex Ferrer who frequently comments on legal issues gave a very unusually frank evaluation of the now ended case against GZ. Judge Ferrer flatly stated that the case should never have been brought; that the prosecution never had the evidence but brought the case only because of unjustified political pressure and in the vain hope that evidence would eventually appear; and that GZ he expects will probably bring a civil case for damages against the prosecuting local authorities. Noting that the defense barely mentioned the FL "stand your ground" law, Judge Ferrer said it had had little relevance because the case against GZ was too weak to even require the defense to raise "stand your ground."

Acts of Destruction by Mat Coward
Reviewed by Sean Gabb
Acts of Destruction is a semi-humorous crime novel set about twenty years into the future. Its underlying premise is that shortages of oil and other raw materials put an end, after about 2010, to the global economic order as we presently know it. The United States collapses into a predictable mix of centralised fascism and armed separatism. The European Union avoids the full horrors of America, but turns inward and becomes more overtly authoritarian and state capitalist. The British response, however, is to reset the political and economic clock to 1945, and to complete all the unfinished business of the Attlee Government.

Hell No We Won't Go: The Shoe's on the Other Foot
by Jeff Fullerton
A few weeks ago a dear friend sent me a link to a site that had a video of troops staking out a group of insurgents or terrorists hiding out in a grove of trees. It starts out a bit long and boring if you don't fast forward to the part which is close to the end where an A-10 Thunderchief/Warthog swoops down and drops a load of cluster bombs which transforms the target area into a raging inferno. My friend told me in the body of the message that the results pretty much says 'there's no one alive in there anymore'. He was in awe of that magnificent warplane which with its Gatling gun and bombs is more or less hellfire on the wing. And he said that our enemies now and well into the future best not cross the line. "Beautiful like thunder; the sound of Freedom". So it was said. Yet I could not help but find it somewhat disturbing; considering there are people in the government who would consider some of their own citizens the bad guys and would happily roast them alive in a grove of pine trees or our own houses for that matter.

Neale's Weekly Gun Rant Volume 24
by Neale Osborn
Wanna bet that you or I would be languishing behind bars if we'd done this? [Link.] Hell, George Zimmerman was beaten to the ground and was tried for murder for shooting Martin. And this cop is cleared of any wrongdoing for shooting a black kid for carrying black shorts in his hand—no warnings, no demands to show what was in his hands or to put his hands up, no warning of any kind. Mr. Weyant DESERVES to win that suit. I hope he does. And "Officer" Mark Sprouse deserves jail time and firing for this one. Imagine being shot in the armpit for carrying a worn out pair of shorts in your hand.

EDITORIAL MATTERS

Take a look at: survivalsheath.com

Things to consider from my weekly reading. And I must admit that I read very little about politics. I mean, it's just disgusting isn't it? It makes me need to puke. So I ignore it as best I can, and read science news and medical news and gun news and other news of scholarly research and such. So very much more interesting and non-nauseating, for sure. However a bit slips through the filters. For example:

The US government has betrayed the internet. We need to take it back
by Bruce Schneier

Government and industry have betrayed the internet, and us.

By subverting the internet at every level to make it a vast, multi-layered and robust surveillance platform, the NSA has undermined a fundamental social contract. The companies that build and manage our internet infrastructure, the companies that create and sell us our hardware and software, or the companies that host our data: we can no longer trust them to be ethical internet stewards.

This is not the internet the world needs, or the internet its creators envisioned. We need to take it back.

And by we, I mean the engineering community.

Yes, this is primarily a political problem, a policy matter that requires political intervention.

But this is also an engineering problem, and there are several things engineers can—and should—do.

And how about them apples:

Bombshell: National Black Republican Association Files Articles of Impeachment Against Barack Obama (aka Barry Soetoro)

A conservative black citizens group, the National Black Republican Association (NBRA), has filed detailed articles of impeachment against Barack Obama, calling for his removal from office over the National Security Agency spying program, the prosecution of whistleblowers, wiretapping journalists, his torture program and the cover-up of Benghazi.

Though the group associates itself with Republicans, many of the articles referenced deal with activities that the Obama administration has engaged in with the full support of establishment Republicans, such as the NSA spying programs, illegal torture and treatment of whistleblowers like Edward Snowden.
