Traditionalism and Free Trade: An Exercise in Libertarian Outreach
by Sean Gabb
Of the issues that divide libertarians and traditionalists, free trade may be the most important. It is central to nearly all our debates. Do we tend to a contractual or an organic view of human relationships? Do we embrace or do we fear a technological and economic progress that is carrying us into a world we cannot predict? Do we regard mankind as a single race, capable, despite its present separations, of a single future history? Or do we regard these present separations as inevitable, and perhaps worth maintaining? Where do we stand in the debate over England that took place between about 1830 and 1850? In all these and more, how we view free trade will usually correlate with, and may determine, the side that we take.

Universal Declaration of Human Freedoms (UDHF)
by A.X. Perez
In 1947 the United Nations (UN) adopted a document titled The Universal Declaration of Human Freedoms (UDHF), intended essentially to be a worldwide bill of rights. It has many good points, but it remains deeply flawed.

Publisher's Note
by L. Neil Smith
Elsewhere in this issue of L. Neil Smith's THE LIBERTARIAN ENTERPRISE you will discover a brace of messages from my old friends J. Neil Schulman and Brad Linaweaver, concerning a review of their respective works written by Davi Barker and placed on the Silver Circle website by its proprietor, my somewhat newer good friend Pasha Roberts.

Countering Davi Barker hit piece on Alongside Night published on SilverCircleUnderground.com
by J. Neil Schulman
Let me set the record straight on a few points. If Davi Barker had written on any other website than the official blog of Silver Circle, I wouldn't have cared about anything he wrote. If I had not been an active supporter of Silver Circle—praising it openly at its Libertopia screening, praising it to Pat Heller within earshot of Pasha (their Libertopia tables were next to each other), offering Pasha waus to raise the profile of Silver Circle in concert with future Alongside Night events, I might not have felt I was being stabbed in the back.

Neale's Weekly Gun Rant Volume 32
by Neale Osborn
Let's start this off with a workplace gun rights story, shall we? Of course, NBC won't take the side of the gun owners. Noooo. Their take is that it is dangerous even to allow guns to be on premises IN YOUR LOCKED CAR. In more than half the states, an employer is legally required to allow employees to keep their guns in their cars. Of COURSE this is supposed to lead to workplace violence, and serves no purpose. That is not, of course, the truth. 11 stories to disprove this idea, with links included. No matter what Victim Disarmament supporters say, a good person on site with a gun reduces deaths LONG before the cops can get there.

And this important news also:

Liberty in Liberty County!

On October 31, 2013, Sheriff Nick Finch won his case at trial in Liberty County, Florida. The charges were complete nonsense to begin with, and the laughter in the courtroom was difficult to suppress as the prosecution presented its flimsy, farcical case.

Sheriff Finch was charged and arrested and booked into his own jail last June. Sheriff Finch had done something nearly unheard of, yet noble and courageous. He nullified the arrest of a law abiding citizen who had the audacity of carrying a gun in his pocket. Sheriff Finch said "not on my watch." So the State moved in, arrested the Sheriff and re-arrested the citizen, Mr. Parish.

The end result was Finch was removed from office and went to trial. Mr. Parish once again had the charges dropped, but he was ordered to perform 50 hours of community service and pay $200.

Let's be very clear here: Neither man was guilty of anything! There were no victims and no evidence that a crime had ever occurred. Today, a jury consisting of six Liberty County citizens nullified the charges against Sheriff Finch and told the State officials who brought this case to trial that they were having none of their shenanigans. Sheriff Finch was reinstated as Sheriff just 15 minutes later.

Defense Distributed Reaches 50% of its Dark Wallet Fundraising Goal on Day 1

Yesterday, DD returned to indiegogo to launch a campaign for the collaborative development of Bitcoin's Dark Wallet, teased last month in The New Yorker. The project was covered yesterday in Forbes and the Financial Times. Within 24 hours we raised 25k USD in combined donations; half of our 45 day goal.

Thank you for your interest in tending the fires of Liberty. We believe there is a huge demand for crypto-anarchic projects after Snowden, and have been blown away by the response.
