Barry The Red
by L. Neil Smith
Come reason with me. I listen to radio talk shows when I get up
every morning—I have to do something to stay awake—and the host of the program
I listen to most frequently is a bizarre recombination of conservative and old-timey
liberal whose most important stock in trade appears to be uncertainty. There is a
class of "thinkers" in American culture who apparently believe (thanks to an
assumption on their part that the human mind is frail and helpless in the face of a
fundamentally capricious and unknowable universe) that uncertainty is evidence of
intellectual honesty.

Leviathan Revisited
by Tyrone Johnson
Brett Scott has written an excellent review of the Bitcoin phenomenon as
it relates to government regulation and international affairs. First, a few quick points on
the author and the publisher. Scott is the author of The Heretic's Guide to Global Finance:
Hacking the Future of Money (Pluto Press: 2013). He has written for publications like The
Guardian, New Scientist, and Wired magazine, and he blogs on alternative finance. He
evidently has looked closely into developments in the crypto-currency world.

Who Benefits from Deficit Spending?
by Jim Carter
The government incurs a trillion dollar increase in the National Debt
annually to spend money it does not have so congress-critters can fund pork barrel projects
back home and get reelected. Is theft from the public by inflation (and perpetual interest
paid on a loan that was not made and is impossible to pay off) for the "freebies" the end
of the scam?? Not hardly.

For Better or Worse: Invasive Species vs Invasive Government
by Jeff Fullerton
Started writing this article while on vacation last week when I took
my Honda Civic in for its first routine maintenance appointment. Brought the iPad along
for entertainment in anticipation of a long wait—as I was told it could take several
hours for the service. And read the local paper that was there. The Tribune Review
had an article about invasive species which became the source of inspiration. Also read
some of my own stuff from the past year or so. I'm surprised how many I have now. Soon
maybe I should write something that could become the "Lever Action" for the Reptile & Fish
hobbies. Might be a good way to introduce the hobbyist community to Libertarian ideas. The
Big Government worshipers and goose stepping treehuggers will probably go nuts for sure!
Let them. After reading some of that stuff about Washington State "Ecotopia" or better yet
"Ecofascist-topia" and in light of what we just found out about New Jersey—might have
to take back past comments about the Garden State—I would often say: "They goose step
so high they kick themselves in the face"—mainly because they were so always so anal
about people possessing corn and pine snakes which are like the goldfish of the reptile
hobby—and a few other things like permit requirements. But out on the Left Coast they
don't want you to have anything because if its a native species it's In-Dayngered and if
its exotic—well then it's an alien invasion scenario worthy of David Gerrold's War
Against the Chtorr waiting to happen!

Neale's Weekly Gun Rant Volume 6-15-2014
by Neale Osborn
Any experienced shooter will tell you that learning and practicing
these basics is very important. They form a foundation for everything else you will
learn, even though SOME things you may learn later will contradict or negate them, at
least at times. A lot of that has to do with the reason you are shooting. Fine control
of all those fundamentals is essential for target shooting and competition, even
hunting, but perhaps not so much for a desperate last stand self defense. I can
guarantee that you will not be thinking of these in that case. Actually, you won't
have much on your mind at all, your body will be too busy with something called the
"fight or flight" response.
