A Declaration of Independence from Republican Rejects
by Thomas L. Knapp
In 2008, the Libertarian Party nominated former US Representative Bob
Barr (R-GA) for President of the United States. There was no coronation—it took six
ballots and the support of another Republican aspirant (Wayne Allyn Root, who got the veep
nod in return for his endorsement) for Barr to get past his libertarian opponents—but
what's interesting are the "befores" and "afters."

New Study: Criminals Prefer Handguns, Not "Assault Weapons"
by C.D. Michel
Thugs prefer handguns. Go figure. According to a study published
on June 16, 2014, most of the guns seized from gang members, felons and drug traffickers
were handguns, not the automatic "assault weapons" often depicted in Hollywood crime
stories. This is nothing new. For decades criminologists have told us this, and they
note it is because petty street crime is best done with small weapons that can easily
be hidden and disposed.

 "They" Lost
by A.X. Perez
 Progressives are upset.
>From a recent article in Slate comes an article that young people are "color
blind", or at least put a value on being "color blind" and don't get racism. Arguably
racism has left its scars that will require healing and the sociological equivalent
of physical therapy and these kids need to learn this. However, this also means that
bureaucrats who earn a living and gain power by administering "racial equity" programs
are watching their rice bowls break. The projected 2025 end of racial inequality in
America begins to believable. An excuse for statism is nearing its death.

Escapist Literature and The Great Escape
by Jeff Fullerton
Been quite a week. Between working hard on the job and projects at home
plus the never ending exploration and discovery that life always ought to be. In addition to
the usual revelations and epiphanies, I just found out the shadow government has a top secret
space fleet. Based on a moon of Saturn. Latest word of mouth from a guy I talked to last
week—probably second hand from Tinfoil Theater. Had to say something funny to take the edge
off the less amusing stories in the news.

Fifteen Things You Probably Do Not Know about Psychopaths
by James G. Long
Have you ever worked for someone who you seriously
thought might be crazy? About half of all workers
have such an experience within a lifetime. The other
half misses out on one of life's most perplexing
  and educational opportunities.
The subject is psychopathy. Knowledge and
understanding of psychopathy is now advancing, and
at an accelerating rate, after a decades-long period
of no growth and slow growth. Good thing! Psychopathy
is the very worst mental disorder; psychopathy and
related conditions have cost millions of lives lost
and trillions of dollars wasted, though it is still
very poorly understood by most people. I am now
speaking not as a medical or psychological
professional, but as a professional project
engineering manager who has been faced with numerous
severe personnel and management problems not
addressed in engineering or business school.
Psychopathy is without a doubt the most
destructive, the most deadly, and the least
comprehensible of mental disorders. So, to promote
understanding of psychopathy, the following points
  are offered:

Why the Gun is Civilization
 by Marko Kloos
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one
another: reason and force. If you want me to do
something for you, you have a choice of either
convincing me via argument, or force me to do
your bidding under threat of force. Every human
interaction falls into one of those two categories,
without exception. Reason or force, that's it.
In a truly moral and civilized society, people
  exclusively interact through persuasion. Force
has no place as a valid method of social
interaction, and the only thing that removes
force from the menu is the personal firearm,
as paradoxical as it may sound to some.
When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by
force. You have to use reason and try to
persuade me, because I have a way to negate
your threat or employment of force. The gun is
the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound
woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger,
a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a
19-year old gangbanger, and a single gay guy
on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys
with baseball bats. The gun removes the
disparity in physical strength, size, or
numbers between a potential attacker and a
  defender.

Hillary Clinton: Pro Gun People Are Terrorists,
Not Entitled to Viewpoint
 Charlotte, NC—(Ammoland.com)—Hillary Clinton
hasn't said that she's running for the Democrat
Party's 2016 presidential nomination, but lately
she's been going out of her way to make sure that
gun owners know what a Hillary presidency would
  be like for them.
On Monday, during an interview on CNN Newsroom,
Mrs. Clinton made clear that at age 66, she still
hasn't outgrown the zealotry of her youth. With
anger characteristic of the political fringe, Mrs.
Clinton said of gun control opponents, "We cannot
let a minority of people—and that's what it
is, it is a minority of people—hold a viewpoint
that terrorizes the majority of people."
Mrs. Clinton was asked by a member of CNN's TV
studio audience "... as it pertains to school
shootings. Do you think that reinstating the ban
on assault weapons and banning high capacity
magazines would do any good?" Mrs. Clinton
responded "Yes, I do. I do." As she went on, she
  twice confused semi-automatic firearms with
  "automatic" weapons.

I Was Born American
 by Sarah A. Hoyt
Yes, I was born in another country of foreign
parents who would no more become American than
fly unassisted, but I figure that was an accident
of circumstance. What really matters is that I
was an American in my heart. I just had to get
here and become one in truth. (And that, by
  itself, is an American attitude.)

This week while talking to a friend about a
foreign SO, I found myself explaining that other
people, in other countries, have a hierarchy in
their heads all the time—who is powerful, who
isn’t, what attitude is proper. You can find it
(if you know where to look) even when reading
  British novels.
We’re not like that. Whether we were born
elsewhere or here, Americans—those of us who
are proud of the name—are rebels,
revolutionaries, something new under the sun: a
people who believe people should be equal in
their right to life, the right to liberty, the
right to pursue their happiness undisturbed by
either inimical neighbors or oppressive “betters.”
We have no betters. We are American. When I got
citizenship I had to swear never to accept
foreign titles of nobility. I thought it was
silly. What title of nobility could compare to
  being an American?
