 A is A: A Thing is Itself
by L. Neil Smith
I spent three hours yesterday playing Solitaire on my computer and
listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio, trying to justify the use of torture by the
government in its war against ... against what? We'll go easy on the state and say its
a war against those who want to blow people and things up. Like the government, we won't
ask—for the moment—why they might want to do that, and what makes them feel justified.

 The Forever War
by Sean Gangol
Unless you just woke from a long coma then you probably know that
Iraq is being taken over by Isis a terrorist group so extreme that even Al-Qaida stays
clear of them. What I find the most interesting about this current fiasco are the
reactions of those on the right and the left.

Anarchism: What It Really Stands For
by Emma Goldman
The history of human growth and development is at the same time the
history of the terrible struggle of every new idea heralding the approach of a brighter
dawn. In its tenacious hold on tradition, the Old has never hesitated to make use of the
foulest and cruelest means to stay the advent of the New, in whatever form or period the
latter may have asserted itself. Nor need we retrace our steps into the distant past to
realize the enormity of opposition, difficulties, and hardships placed in the path of
every progressive idea. The rack, the thumbscrew, and the knout are still with us; so
are the convict's garb and the social wrath, all conspiring against the spirit that is
serenely marching on.

Neale's Weekly Gun Rant for 12-14-2014
by Neale Osborn
I'd like to deal with a topic that some people just refuse to
comprehend. Human rights. For some reason, "Human Rights Activists" constantly
support disarming people. They NEVER think about the poor, the downtrodden, the
victims. They constantly demand someone "do something" whenever a story about poor
villagers being massacred, or poor blacks dying in Chicago from a gunshot, or
Chinese peasants being killed by their government. Yet they ignore the most
important part—the victims are ALWAYS unarmed by law. They are forced to be
defenseless, BY LAW. So whether it is government thugs in China, narcotraficantes
in Mexico, or gangbanger blacks in Chicago, the killers have weapons, their victims
are unarmed. BY THE VERY PEOPLE WHO WERE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT THEM. DO you want to
see human rights violations drop? REALLY drop? Start collecting guns and ammo (I'll
donate a few) and ship them to the people in areas where firearms are prohibited
and human rights are violated. Let's all start with those ladies in Mexico I mention
down below. Remember, as L. Neil Smith says, "Every man, woman, and responsible
child has a human, civil, and Constitutional right to own and carry, anytime, wherever
they choose, any weapon, rifle, pistol, shotgun, machinegun, WHATEVER, without permission
from anybody" (my paraphrase of The Atlanta Declaration) Let's stop genocides. Let's
protect human rights, everywhere. Arm the poor, the tired, the huddles masses yearning to breathe free.

The Dark Enlightenment for Newbies
Soon after Nick Land coined the phrase "Dark Enlightenment"
there was a flood of articles on the subject. However, most
of the articles that actually tried to explain what it was
were written by those hostile to the concept. Now that the
furor has subsided it seems like a good time to try to
explain to newcomers what the Dark Enlightenment actually
is from a sympathetic angle. With so many different writers
it can be intimidating for newcomers to tip their toes in
the water without having to jump in to the ocean. So this
will be a primer for those who are perhaps curious and
looking for an introduction.

Discover Interview: Lynn Margulis Says She's Not
Controversial, She's Right
It's the neo-Darwinists, population geneticists, AIDS
researchers, and English-speaking biologists as a whole
who have it all wrong.
 by Dick Teresi
A conversation with Lynn Margulis is an effective way to
change the way you think about life. Not just your life.
All life. Scientists today recognize five groups of life:
bacteria, protoctists (amoebas, seaweed), fungi (yeast,
mold, mushrooms), plants, and animals. Margulis, a
self-described "evolutionist," makes a convincing case
that there are really just two groups, bacteria and
everything else.

That distinction led to her career-making insight. In a
1967 paper published in the Journal of Theoretical Biology,
Margulis suggested that mitochondria and plastids—vital
structures within animal and plant cells—evolved from
bacteria hundreds of million of years ago, after bacterial
cells started to collect in interactive communities and
live symbiotically with one another. The resulting mergers
yielded the compound cells known as eukaryotes, which in
turn gave rise to all the rest—the protoctists, fungi,
plants, and animals, including humans. The notion that we
are all the children of bacteria seemed outlandish at the
time, but it is now widely supported and accepted. "The
evolution of the eukaryotic cells was the single most
important event in the history of the organic world," said
Ernst Mayr, the leading evolutionary biologist of the last
century. "Margulis's contribution to our understanding the
symbiotic factors was of enormous importance."
