is something in democracy that selects for
the very worst in humanity: the craziest,
the most stupid, and the most evil.

We're starting the Rant. So what happens next? Ayup! Mama Liberty speaks! [Link]. This time, the topic is gun laws, New Jersey, and some statistics.

Sorry, trick question. Of course, all "gun laws" go too far. And, for the record, that has almost nothing to do with the "second amendment" or safety or reducing actual violent crime.
The fundamental question that isn't being asked, most of the time anyway, is why there should be any government "control" of an inanimate object. The gun control people insist that more and more "laws" are needed to save lives, to reduce violent crime, and to give the police better ways to achieve this. I can't see any basis for this idea in the facts available.
The laws prohibiting murder, assault, rape, theft, and every other aggression of one person against another, are only useful after the fact, to apprehend and possibly punish those who commit those crimes. The laws themselves do nothing to actually prevent crime. People who want to harm others are not much influenced by the laws, and are obviously even less impressed by laws written to prohibit them from obtaining and using whatever tools they deem necessary.

Her final paragraph (you'll have to go to the link to read it) is dead on balls accurate ("It's an industry term!" Marissa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny). I'm SOO glad I escaped from New Jersey in a balloon during the Bush the First presidency!

Our opening "Well Armed American" focuses on one tough lady from Detroit. [Link].

DETROIT (WXYZ)—A 46-year-old woman is under arrest after she critically wounded a 47-year-old man who reportedly charged at her from her own backyard.
The shooting happened around 4:00 a.m. in the 11000 block of Minden in Detroit. The woman was heading back inside her home after returning from the store.
She told relatives she couldn't sleep and left to buy some cigarettes.
Moment after parking in her driveway, she saw the suspect charging at her and she opened fire, she told relatives.
According to the woman's husband, the man got back up after being shot in the chest and said he was going to kill her.
That's when her husband let their two dogs out, a pitbull and a bulldog. The dogs pulled the suspect back over the fence and kept him there until police arrived. The woman's husband says the dogs were protecting her.
The woman has a permit to carry a concealed pistol, but it seems her claim of self-defense isn't adding up to investigators and they placed the woman under arrest.
A decision from prosecutors on whether the woman will face any charges could come as early as Tuesday.
Being an ABC affiliate provides the story, one doubts they presented any evidence to exonerate the woman. I hope that it proves she was right, and that the charges are dropped.

IF this wasn't so pathetic, it would be funny.... Hell, it IS funny, in addition to being pathetic. [Link].

A group called States United to Prevent Gun Violence wants to make a point. To do so, they set up a fake gun store and invited in the public. When buyers wandered up to the counter, they were presented with their choice of firearms. The catch? Each of the firearms could be related back to a crime of some significance. Then, apparently, the customer would feel ashamed of his decision to buy a gun that had been used in such a horrible manner.
How's about an example...
A first-time gun buyer comes to the counter asking for a gun that would be easy to use. She's looking for something she isn't going to have to spend a year trying to figure out. Harmless enough query, right? Well, the clerk tells her that a .22 revolver is the perfect gun for her. The "easiest gun we have to use," he insists. But wait for it:
"It's also a gun that a 5-year-old found in his parents' bedroom, went down and shot his 9-month-old baby brother with it."

* * * * *

What would happen if we did this with some other commonly-sold products?
Oh, you're buying dishwasher detergent? Did you know that pod was once eaten by a toddler, poisoning him before he ever had a chance to start kindergarten?
How about that Buick? Did you know a woman once drove this exact model into a crowd of innocent people, killing four and injuring dozens of others?

SUPGV is even dumber as I thought they were!

Sometimes an old dog still has teeth, and isn't afraid to use them. [Link]. This "Well Armed American" has no problem losing his wallet, but once his beloved wife is in danger, things change....

Eighty-four-year-old Doug Jandebeur was getting into his pickup truck outside his business on Monday night when he was assaulted by a would-be robber.
After the assailant struck Jandebeur in the head and demanded his wallet, he went after Jandebeur's wife, who was sitting on the passenger side. That's when he got the fear of his life.
Jandebeur explained what happened to News on 6 in Tulsa, Oklahoma:

"I felt him take my billfold out and he headed over to the door where my wife was.
I pulled out my automatic and was getting ready to ventilate him. Once he saw my gun he decided to leave."

The suspect's face was captured on surveillance video; Tulsa police are asking people to help identify him.

You don't even IMPLY you're going to bother his wife if you wish to remain safe. I bet that thug is STILL running!

We welcome the addition of three more states to the "Constitutional Carry" movement. [Link]. Kansas, New Hampshire, and West Virginia have all implemented laws that will lead them closer to Constitutional carry—where the only permit needed to carry is the 2nd Amendment. Open or concealed. West Virginia went farther, and their law over-rides certain city ordinances—under the new law, cities may ONLY ban carry into certain government buildings. Several cities in WVa banned concealed carry and/or sale of firearms within city limits.

The West Virginia law overrides separate local ordinances in various cities and towns within the state. It also removes the potentially dangerous waiting period.
A strong move toward constitutional carry is also underway in Iowa, where supporters have written a bill to allow unrestricted carry of a handgun without a permit.
Iowa would join the ranks of Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Vermont and Wyoming, the only states that do not require a permit for individuals to keep and bear arms. A similar proposal has been floated in South Carolina.

It is coming, people. And it can't come soon enough.

This is one of the "Well Armed Americans" I wish I didn't have to include. [Link]. To many people, being forced to kill in self defense is seen as a sure cause of impending mental angst. For some, that is true, for others, not so much. Personally, I consider the assailant to have committed suicide, and it's not the shooter's fault he's dead. And, while no one WANTS to kill a fellow man unless threatened (except for the truly sick few killers who enjoy it), I won't hesitate. But to have been physically abused by your father for years, with multiple restraining orders against him (like THAT ever works), and his even having served time for that abuse, and to finally be forced to kill him for said abuse, the last thing ANY young person needs is to be charged with first degree murder.

A Virginia prosecutor has charged the son of a serially abusive man with first degree murder for shooting and killing his 6'4" 250+ lbs father. A large part of her reasoning for filing murder charges is that she claims that the teen-aged victim fired too many shots in self-defense.
Ann Baskervill, the Dinwiddie County commonwealth's attorney, said 18-year-old James Faison fired eight rounds at his father with a .45-caliber handgun, with six shots hitting the victim.
"He emptied the gun, the only reason he stopped shooting is because it didn't have anymore ammo," Baskervill said.
It is for this reason that she has charged Faison with first-degree murder, which could land the young man in prison for the rest of his life plus three years.

* * * * *

All the prosecutors are saying is that they felt James Faison had the ability to retreat and should have, and that they felt the number of shots fired was excessive.

He shot too many times, and he could have run away. and THAT makes it Murder One according to this bitch of a prosecutor. If ever a young man needed a "Stand Your Ground", here is the time. Monday morning quarterbacks, thinking THEY can determine, after the fact, how many shots was "enough" to save his life from the man who had been brutalizing him for years. One would hope that SOMEONE with a brain would come to their senses in Virginia and drop these asinine charges.

From Fox News (Stop frothing at the mouth, they're no more biased than the others, just biased AGAINST the others!), we find that a fact checker has blown a lot of Obama's lies about guns, gun ownership, and what the average American thinks about guns and gun ownership. [Link].

The first fact-check involved a comment Obama made—at a town hall at South Carolina's Benedict College—where he said, "What we have to recognize is, is that our homicide rates are so much higher than other industrial countries. I mean by like a mile."
The president seemed to be telling students the U.S. had the highest homicide rate in the industrialized world, which isn't true, according to the newspaper. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the average homicide rate among the 36 countries is 4.1 per 100,000 people. Brazil tops the list with a homicide rate of 25.5. The U.S. and Chile tie for fourth. Both have a homicide rate of 5.2.

There's ONE lie from Barry, right out of the box. Read the linked article for more.

The start of our "Quotes of the Week."

"Though defensive violence will always be 'a sad necessity' in the eyes of men of principle, it would be still more unfortunate if wrongdoers should dominate just men."—St. Augustine

"No Kingdom can be secured otherwise than by arming the people. The possession of arms is the distinction between a freeman and a slave."—James Burgh

"Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters."—Daniel Webster

"The philosophy of gun control: Teenagers are roaring through town at 90MPH, where the speed limit is 25. Your solution is to lower the speed limit to 20."—Sam Cohen (inventor of the neutron bomb)

"The tragic history of civilian disarmament cries a warning against any systematic attempts to render innocent citizens ill-equipped to defend themselves from tyrant terrorists, despots or oppressive majorities,"—Daniel Schmutter

"The ruling class doesn't care about public safety. Having made it very difficult for States and localities to police themselves, having left ordinary citizens with no choice but to protect themselves as best they can, they now try to take our guns away. In fact they blame us and our guns for crime. This is so wrong that it cannot be an honest mistake."—Sen. Malcolm Wallop

"One of the arguments that had been made against gun control was that an armed citizenry was the final bulwark against tyranny. My response had been that untrained, lightly-armed non-soldiers couldn't prevail against a modern army. I had concluded that the qualitative difference in firepower was such that all of the previous rules of guerilla war no longer applied. Both Vietnam and Afghanistan demonstrated that wasn't true. Repelling an armed invasion is not something that American citizens are likely to face, but the possibility of a despotic government coming to power is not wholly unthinkable. One of the sequellae of Vietnam was the rise of the Khmer Rouge and slaughter of perhaps a million Cambodian citizens. Those citizens, like the Jews in Germany or the Armenians in Turkey, were unarmed and thus utterly and completely defenseless against police and paramilitary. An armed minority was able to kill and terrorize unarmed victims with total impunity."—Paul Hagar

"A system of licensing and registration is the perfect device to deny gun ownership to the bourgeoisie." -—Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

"The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed -—where the government refuses to stand for re-election and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake free people get to make only once." -—Judge Alex Kozinski

"Cogito, ergo sum armatus: I think, therefore I am armed." -—Anonymous
