In philosophy, the study of politics is the study of interpersonal relationships, i.e. the study of how people interact with each other. A particular political system will be a result of—a reflection of and guided by—a particular code of ethics or morality. A dominant form of morality (usually held implicitly) is selflessness and altruism and that leads to a political system with some form of authoritarianism. The Covenant of Unanimous Consent is explicitly guided by and a reflection of the ethical/moral principle contained in the Non-Aggression Principle.

I went yesterday evening to a seminar arranged in London by the Social Affairs Unit. This began with a brief lecture by Theodore Dalrymple, a doctor who writes an occasional column for The Spectator. His theme was "The Proletarianisation of British Culture". He explained how notions of politeness and restraint were vanishing from the middle classes, being replaced by an increasing vulgarity of thought and behaviour; and that this was not a vulgarity copied from the working classes, but was part of a general decline also affecting them. It was a brief lecture, and was intended as no more than a summary of the problem. The discussion was then thrown open for others to supply answers or other pertinent comments.

EDITORIAL MATTERS

Well, now. Turns out that Joss Whedon sez he wasn't driven off Twetter by being dumped-on by his fellow Political Correctors after all. He just needed to get busy instead of foolin around with these computer things alla time. I can sure relate to that!

Speaking of getting busy, I'm reading David Copperfield now. Dang, that is one big long book! And hard to put down, too. I usually put it down when I find myself reading with one eye closed 'cause I'm so worn-out I can't get both to focus at the same time or something. Try it yourself: [eBook versions]

And my wife is reading another hard to put down book called The Martian by Andy Weir. If you haven't read that one yet, go and do it, it is excellent!: [Amazon.com] I see they (you know, them!) are making a movie of it that is coming out in the end of this year sometime. I guess I'll go see that one, although I'm getting rather tired of all the Political Correcting in movies these days. I hear that that author of a thing called The Vagina Monologues was a consultant on a new action movie just came out called Mad Max Again or something like that. The mind boggles. Boggles I say! Perhaps it is just another one of them danged intertubes falserumours or something.

Speaking of... I got interrupted and forgot what I was going to say. "So it goes...."

Also, Kaptain Kanada returns with an article in this ish. It has been a while, Kaptain, welcome back!
