Let’s Hear It For The Girls
by L. Neil Smith
From the beginning of my activism in the
libertarian movement, some 56 years ago, I have expected to hear
about some medical breaktrough which would, in effect, render human
beings immortal. “You won’t get sick, you won’t get
old, and you won’t die.” in the words of the science
fiction movie Cocoon. I even went so far as to predict that,
someday, everybody could expect to perish violently, as in a car or
spaceship crash or something after a thousand years of living, since
that would be the only way left for people to die.

A Man for Our Time
by Jim Davidson
Way back in December 1998, I first got involved
with a group that wanted to pay my expenses in digital gold. They
asked me to start an e-gold account, so I did. My account number was
within 1,600 of the very first of those accounts. Many years later,
there were hundreds of thousands of active e-gold accounts and
billions of dollars of economic transactions in e-gold, GoldMoney,
e-Bullion and similar digital gold currencies. Early the next year,
1999, I attended a conference and met Bernard von NotHaus. He had a
really interesting product. His product was silver money.

Yes Lefties, Hate Speech is Free Speech
by Sean Gangol
It never ceases to amaze me how people on the
left can make some of the dumbest statements with a straight face,
such as, “Hate Speech is Not Free Speech.” What is
their basis for this nonsense? I don’t recall the Founding
Fathers making any exception for Hate Speech when they wrote
the First Amendment to the Constitution. So how did they come to this
conclusion? Are they getting us confused with our Canadian neighbors?
They get it from the same place that they get most of their Social
Justice nonsense, college campuses. It is no wonder that when a study
was conducted on a college campus about free speech, an overwhelming
number of students said that they would rather see the First
Amendment repealed than allow speech that some would deem hurtful.
When I heard that there was a campus that provided vending machines
full of condoms and various forms of contraceptives, I was actually
relieved, since I don’t think today’s college students
are mature enough to reproduce.

From the Rust Belt to the Asteroid Belt: The Case Against Property Taxes
by Jeff Fullerton
Recently—as of last
November—Pennsylvania voters passed a referendum that many
homeowners hope will eliminate school property taxes.
That just so happened to be the one that I sat
out. Partly because I was too busy that morning living with one foot
in two places and trying to get to work on time. Secondly because I
rationalized that if we abolished property taxes we might end up with
something worse. Such as a revenue shortfall that results in bringing
back the property taxes and keeping the sales tax increase or
whatever they tried replacing it with! You can never underestimate
the capacity of government to try to have its cake and eat it too and
it would be easy for them to justify the additional revenue stream in
light of their ever increasing appetite for spending and debt.
