THE LIBERTARIAN ENTERPRISE Number 474, June 29, 2008 "These are beings perfectly willing to kill you and your children for your own good."
Roll Back the Police State!
Attribute to The Libertarian Enterprise In my article "Nobody is Safe in a Police State" I made reference to the evil farce of "airport security" and suggested that something be done about it. Something is being done now. I have begun a (Canadian) national petition campaign to demand a referendum in which the Canadian people can express their opposition to the airport "security" which currently terrorises air travellers in this land. [See the attached petition and leaflet below] Of course, the federal state will never hold such a referendum -- they are all too aware of the most likely result -- but the very act of demanding it will increase public awareness of the problem, expose the state's contempt for the rights of the citizenry, and motivate people to oppose police statism in all its evil manifestations. In addition, once the campaign has been going for several months (it just started last week), a national boycott of airline travel during a peak period will be held: if one wants to pressure the state to back off with its fascism, pressuring the airlines with the loss of profits is probably the best way to accomplish the goal. You can be sure that they will shout in Big Brother's ear if they start to lose money. I encourage not only Canadians, but all people in all nations which are afflicted with the totalitarian evil of airport police statism to organise such petitions and boycotts. If you are a Canadian resident and wish to take part, please contact me first. Finally, I ask all who read this to send it to everyone they know. This is truly an idea whose time has come, but I am only one man in one city. With your help we can, at the very least, embarrass the state and expose the depth of popular opposition to its contempt for our rights. As the murder of Mr Robert Dziekanski [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeViFiODSYo] in Vancouver Airport demonstrates, we have no greater threat than the goose-stepping state itself. Please help me to make a small victory for the forces of... Peace and Liberty.
In light of the following, we, the Canadian people, demand a national referendum be held on the subject of airport "security": 1. Airport "security" personnel are unqualified to detect and
prevent any serious threats of terrorist attack.
2. History has shown that the only effective deterrent to
attacks on airliners is the arming of flight crew (pilots and co-pilots).
3. Airport "security" procedures result in great inconvenience and wasted
time for air travellers.
4. Airport "security" personnel (including the RCMP) have insulted,
assaulted and humiliated travellers of all ages and nationalities, the
chronically ill, the injured, and the disabled without in any way
increasing anyone's safety.
5. The conversion of our airports into police states has resulted in
the confiscation without compensation of many thousands of dollars'
worth of nail files, nail clippers, knitting needles, pocket knives,
multi-tools, scissors, children's toys, food and beverages, shampoos,
lotions, make-up, etc., on the specious grounds that such items are
potential deadly weapons and/or bomb components.
6. The conversion of our airports into police states has not increased
safety for travellers in Canada but, on the contrary, it is the direct
cause of untold numbers of violations of travellers' civil rights,
including the killing of Mr Robert Dziekanski by the RCMP in Vancouver
Airport on 14 October 2007.
7. The theoretical threat of attacks on airliners is more acceptable to
us than is the reality of living in a police state.
Nobody but airport "security" is terrorising
people in our airports. For further information, or to join the campaign, contact:
We, the undersigned, demand a referendum be held throughout Canada on the following question: "Do you support: the elimination of the present airport "security" measures, the elimination of the present airport "security" personnel, and the arming of flight crew (pilots and co-pilots)?"
