Appeasement

For several days, I've been reflecting on the term "appeasement"
as it is being used by the Bush and McCain crowds in an attempt to justify further
interventions in, say, Iran. This term comes into the political lexicon owing to
what, in hindsight, proved to be errors on the part of British Prime Minister
Neville Chamberlain in his negotiations with German Chancellor Adolf Hitler in
the late 1930s.
