Little Criminals: The Context of Consent
by L. Neil Smith
Have you ever noticedin movies, books, or real lifethat
when a mugger attacks someone, he never says "Give me your money!", but
usually says "Give me the money!" or even "Give me my money!" instead?
There seems to be a basic human drive to justify one's actions, no matter how
heinous they might actually be.

Farewell to James P. Hogan, writer and friend
by Fran Van Cleave
I first met Jim Hogan back in the mid-nineties at the Doctors for Disaster
Preparedness convention, an annual get-together for skeptics of environmentalist doom. That
probably sounds strange, but the disasters they talked about were of the government-caused
variety. My husband Kent and I, pleasantly surprised to find one of our favorite science-fiction
writers in attendance, were stunned to find ourselves hanging out with Jim for nearly the
entire weekend.

Louisiana: Washington's Red-Headed Stepchild
by Russell D. Longcore
Remember the old saying? Someone got beaten like a "red-headed stepchild?" It
meant that if a parent was abusive, a stepchild might get the worst of it. As redheads are
traditionally picked on, a redheaded stepchild would get an even worse beating then the biological
offspring.

The Importance of Image
by Sean Gangol
A few months ago I wrote an article titled "A New Hope." A week after the
article had been posted on TLE, Paul Bonneau, another contributor to this site, responded
negatively to my criticism of the town hall protestors that stood outside carrying firearms
out in the open. Apparently Mr. Bonneau took offense to my criticism and accused me of looking
down on people who choose to exercise their constitutionally protected rights. He also accused
me of being someone who would rather beg for my rights then demand them. I thought it was strange
that he accused of me of this since I was praising those who stood up to the government through
out my article. I have already written two responses in the Letter to the Editor section, but I
felt that it was important to illustrate my points further.

Locked up just before Open Heart Surgery for Downloading Mr Luty's eBook
by Clifford Rutley
All my life I've known that I was born with a congenital heart defect and
that I would eventually need open heart surgery to rectify it. Fast forward 38 years and my
time had come. I spent some time with my parents the week before my operation, waiting for
the call to come into hospital.

What Is to Be Done With the Statists?Part 2
by Paul Bonneau
Following up on my original article on this subject, the question comes up: how
would multiple communities of diverse types of governance, or no governance, interact? Can we imagine
a stable scenario that is tolerable or even good?

Obama Takes the War to Costa Rica
by Jim Davidson
The war on drugs. Who is this jackass kidding? On 18 October 2009 it was
reported, "The Obama administration will not seek to arrest medical marijuana users and
suppliers as long as they conform to state laws, under new policy guidelines to be sent to
federal prosecutors Monday."
