Empire of Lies
by L. Neil Smith
Ladies and gentlemen, fellow Children of the American Revolution, the great libertarian author and teacher Robert LeFevre once told me that the first money the United States government ever spent was a $20,000 check from a Dutch bank, drawn on an account that didn't exist. Thus the American Empire was born in the shadow of a lie. It's often been observed that the first casualty of war is the truth. But that's a lie, too, in its way. The reality is that, for most wars to begin, the truth has to have been sacrificed a long time in advance.

"Oswald Was A Patsy"
by John Taylor
Oh, no ... wait! I meant Obama—got my O'patsies confused. All you folks blaming Obama for all the woes of the world are every bit as benighted as the Bush-haters of yore.

Down With Powards!

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that America has become a culture of cowards. "No guns" = cowardice. "War on terrorism" = cowardice. "War on Politically Incorrect Drugs" = cowardice.

Pray For The Safety Of President Obama
by Russell D. Longcore
Former LA Cop Paul Huebl wrote an article today entitled "America Will See Its Worst Race Riot Yet This Summer". His premise is that if George Zimmerman, erstwhile armed neighborhood watchman, is not convicted in his murder trial of alleged trespasser Trayvon Martin in Florida, there will be blood in the streets in your favorite city this summer.

From the Rust Belt to the Asteroid Belt:
a GUT (Grand Unified Theory of Freeholding)

by Jeff Fullerton
A few months ago I had one of those deep, thoughtful conversations with a good friend on the issues of Freeholding and self sufficiency. We concluded that much of what has transpired in the headlines over the last several years boils down to a battle between two Americas and two separate and mutually exclusive visions for the future.

Fighting Dirty in Colorado
by Rex May
There's a recurring theme about these things. Whenever a Good Guy comes up with a plan to oppose the Bad Guys by using the Bad Guys' tactics against them, some armchair general says, "We're better than that." That's why we lose. When the left is unhappy, they send thugs out to riot in the street and defecate on cars. When the right is unhappy, it holds orderly demonstrations and cleans up after itself. And then congratulates itself on how well it behave as it loses the argument. Don't get me wrong. All things being equal, I believe in fair play and all that it implies. But fair play only works when you have some kind of consensus about it. The Geneva rules only work when they're enforced. And the left, count on it, has no rules. They'll do absolutely anything at all to win and not even blush about it.

Neale's Weekly Gun Rant Volume 16
by Neale Osborn
I'm distressed the article glosses over the entire Constitution EXCEPT for the supremacy clause, totally ignoring the reason states are passing nullification laws. Across this great nation (removes tongue from cheek), Nullification is rearing it's Libertarian head. What, specifically, do I mean by nullification? various states and municipalities are passing laws, regulations, or legislation to over-ride, or nullify, federal laws. Montana has declared that firearms manufactured in-state are not required to meet or follow BATFE regulations or federal laws as long as they are sold in-state. California, Washington state, and 12 other states have passed medical marijuana laws in defiance of federal laws declaring pot a controlled substance, and Colorado has legalized recreational marijuana. MANY states are refusing to comply with Obamacare rules and regulations regarding state-run exchanges, and the expansion of Medicare. And there are other fine examples of Libertarianism cropping up, even when the people doing it detest Libertarianism. And I love it.

EDITORIAL MATTERS

Our publisher, Mr. L. Neil Smith mentioned the problem of "our" government spying on us and lying to us and about us in a speech he gave in Albuquerque, New Mexico on June 15, 2003 to the Libertarian Party of New Mexico. That's over 10 years ago, and the speech is just as timely now as then. Maybe moreso. Of course we knew about the lies, but They The People seem shocked to find out about it. So send 'em a copy to remind them that the libertarians are ahead of the curve as always yet again. Really, the way so many people acted as if this was the first time they had ever heard of such a thing was astonishing. Just how stupid ARE Us the People, taken as a group? See "Empire of Lies" feature article in this issue.

Speaking of L. Neil Smith, he is pleased to let you know that his novel Their Majesties' Bucketeers (Ballantine Del Rey Books, 1981) is coming back into print in just a few days time. Golly!

We (that is to say "us") recommend a serious reading of "U.S. Flag Recalled After Causing 143 Million Deaths", a meditation on the Fourth of July and such first published by The Onion® (America's Finest News Source) on April 13, 2010. It was supposed to be funny, but like so much in The Onion, it's just sad and depressing due to it being so very, very true. Alas. FNORD [LINK]
