Special to L. Neil Smith's The Libertarian Enterprise

As most of us know by now, especially L. Neil Smith, Piers Morgan made his final broadcast on CNN. I know that Neil has already written a farewell message, but I have been itching to write my own, every since I first saw Morgan on CNN. I can't say that I am surprised by this. What does surprise me is that they let him stay on the air as long as they did. I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering the joke of a network that is CNN.

As Morgan signed off for the last time, he managed to throw in one last tirade about how guns belong in the hands of the military and not private individuals. I have to hand it to you, Piers, most people would have stopped beating a dead horse after the flies started swarming the corpse, but not you. Nope. You just keep beating it long after the horse has rotted into nothing more then a broken skeleton.

Obviously you just didn't get why your ratings took a nose dive into hell. No matter how many times you tried to shout down your pro-Second Amendment guests that challenged you, it still didn't give you any ratings. Why do you think that is, Piers? You even wrote a book about America's love affair with guns. One day its pages may line the cage of somebody's pet bird or a litter box. Perhaps somebody may use it to line their home to house break the family dog.

Seriously, Piers, this isn't the mid-nineties when CNN was in its heyday and the mainstream media had a monopoly over the news. People aren't as gunphobic as they used to be. There are a number of reasons for this, one of them being the large surge of people that armed themselves against criminals during the nineties. They realized that guns aren't these demonic objects that make people shoot each other for no reason. It could also have much to do with the rise of the internet and alternative media outlets, which made it difficult for the mainstream media to suppress the truth about guns.

Either way the people's will just isn't on your side, Piers. That is why you haven't seen anybody on the federal level passing any significant form of Victim Disarmament legislation. Let me guess. It's all because of that evil NRA. I can't see how one organization can have so much power over congress. Is it like the Michael Douglas line in "An American President" where he says "Does the National Rifle Association have a picture of you playing golf with Satan?" So is that the case? Is that what gives the NRA such power over the legislative process? Or do they have pictures of every congressman participating in an orgy involving bestiality? I think I would have to introduce a third option here. It could be that Victim Disarmament laws are no longer popular among voters and the only thing that congress is afraid of is the prospect of losing their seats on Election Day.

As much flack as I like to give you, Piers I have to admit that I sometimes pity you. You seem to have no clue to why nobody listens to you. Well, aside from people not wanting to give up their right to keep and bear arms, it may also have to do with them not wanting to be told what to do by somebody who is not an even an American citizen. If memory serves me, didn't America have a little revolution over this sort of thing? I think it also involved your ancestors trying to take our guns. You remember how that one worked out?

Well, if it's any consolation, you probably succeeded at one thing with your mean spirited banter. You have made our side look good. Your condescending attitude and your inability to have an adult conversation with your opponents has reflected badly, not just on you, but the movement that you represent. Your attempts at trying to shout down our side, has probably led to greater advancement of our cause.

Well, Piers I wish I could say that I am going to miss you. Actually I am going to miss watching you get smacked down by people like Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America, despite your attempts at trying to shout him down. I am especially going to miss you cowering before the angry rants of Alex Jones. I do wish you luck. Maybe you will land a job at MSNBC where they have Al Sharpton as a talking head and at one point they gave Alec Baldwin his own show. This is the one station that can't lower their journalistic standards any further. If not, maybe Glenn Beck can give you job at The Blaze. They could probably use somebody to go on coffee runs.
